English Imports No. of owners

When someone imports a car from the UK and registers it here how many previous owners (if any, first time registered in Ireland) goes down on the registration cert?

    Reason for asking.
I was looking at a car online that has been imported from the UK (spec not available here and badge is UK so can only be a UK model). The car is listed as having only 1 owner and as being taxed until the 06/07 hence must be on Irish plates. If this is true then the current owner must have bought the car new in the UK.

    Thoughts anyone

Give the owner a call. If he'she didn't buy the car new in the uk then they're clearly telling fibs. And telling fibs in the ad is not a good start.

Look for a UK HPI report. Anyone importing a UK car should have had one done at the time.

Interesting point. The previous owner of my car imported it from the UK. When I bought it, it had three owners - above guy and two previous UK owners on the certificate, which is correct

Just after checking my cert there and it says "j3 - no of owners in irl"
It doesn't mention anything of the previous 11 owners my car had in the UK

The NCT tells u what the Irish owner fills out on the form......I found 8 out 10 cars on done deal had different milage when I checked it's English m o t ...there's transporters of cheap /dodgy cars being bought online from auctions in England...

You can get the mileage details from all the previous UK MOT's if you have the UK registration number BUT you will need someone in the UK to look it up on the DVLA website.

Strange that EU membership restricts this sort of relevant public information (or does not make it available).

    1. Your answer doesn't answer the OP's Question.

    2. The thread is nearly 11 years old

FYI, any imported car will have "0 previous owners" on the Irish vehicle registration cert. (j3)

Previous owners are NOT carried over from the country of origin.
