Linux on a laptop

I've limited experience with using Linux and would like to expand on that. I want to install kubuntu on a laptop but I'm a little concerned about drivers. Would this be much of a problem? I've a Samsung x50 and I've looked at some sites regarding linux on laptops. This particular model is not mentioned but other models in the series have had various degress of success and they use some of the same hardware. I ran the live cd and had mixed results, couldn't get the native resolution to work but I imagine that I would need to install the correct driver, ATI x600 card - I've also read that ATI drivers are troublesome. Would I be setting myself up for a lot of hardship here, especially as I've never installed a distro before.

native res is about the xorg.conf really and should just require an edit (or it may just work after a full install). It should work just fine if you weren't having any real troubles with the livecd.

    Thanks Khannie,

Live CD ran mostly fine, wasn't able to get the wireless card connected to the network with WPA2. Not sure how to solve that - maybe another config file I need to edit? I'll give it a run over the weekend and see how it goes!
