Hi I bought a Toyota Commercial ('06 Landcruser) Last year it was new when i bought it but pre regestered by the Garrage. The Engine blew on it 2 weeks ago tru no fault of ours (it had just received a service from a toyota garrage) ans tyoyota are saying the engine is covered by the warranty but car hitr or any replacement vehicle is not!!!! So i was just wondering if anyone new if this is rite. as the jeep is still no where near fixed and i cant afforde to rent any longer. and as it is nothing i dont wrong i think this id very unfair!!!!

Commercial vehicles usually don't include a replacement vehicle under the warranty. Repairs, both parts and labour are, but to get a replacement vehicle you will have to dance and sing to Toyota customer care. I'd a similar incident before Christmas and it cost me over a grand in van hire - I'm still trying to fight the case for r/v hire but no joy yet.

They have to fix it in a reasonable period of time though.

Toyota or the dealer should supply the OP with some sort of temperary transport as a goodwill gesture. Bad form imo and it would definately influence my decision next time I buy a vehicle.

Did the foreman give an explanation as to why the engine blew?????

No the Toyota Garrage just said that it never usualy happens(No other explanation) , and if we had to have broke down more than 50Kms away from home(it was just under 30kms where it happened) we would have been entitled to 3 days car hire!!!! but yet thay have the jeep over 2 weeks now. to tell you the truth Never Ever would i buy TOYOTA again.....

Don't worry... in this lovely country ALL the manufacturers are as unhelpful as the next one when it comes to work under warrenty!

If I was you, I'd ring Customer Care in Toyota directly and put your case to them politely.

    Phone : 01 419 0222
    Post : Customer Relations Dept.
    Toyota Motor Centre
    Merrion Road, Dublin 4

They were very helpful on another matter I had with them when the dealer hit his limit!!

Anyway, see how you get on and if it's looking really unlikely that you'll make progress, threaten the Consumer affairs crowd and the Joe Duffy show.

To be fair (and I'm often not) Toyota vehicles have a good rep. for reliability normally.

I know someone whose gearbox fell out of her Yaris after 6 months and the dealer replaced the whole car

Not quite true - usually Toyota are quite good. And in fairness, most manufacturers uphold the warranty on any vehicle. Sometimes faults, especially those of intermittent nature, are hard to diagnose. Often the mechanic/dealer reckons the fault is fixed, only for the customer to experience the same symptoms in a few days time. I'm not making excuses for dealers, but sometimes there is a genuine reason for faults going unrepaired.

TBH, this post is the first time I've ever heard somebody say they would never but another Toyota due to reliability/warranty issues.

Maybe the garage are held up waiting for parts or the go ahead from warranty to do the job. These big jobs take time. they don't get done at the click of a finger.
i'd bet they don't even have a land cruiser engine in stock in the distributers because they've never had that problem before and have to wait for it from Japan.
Come on have a little patience.
    People need to understand that.

    3 weeks?

Most people's patience would have run out after a week or so!

What's the garage telling you at the moment about the status of the car / the expected fix date? Did you ring Toyota Ireland as per Avns1s' advice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Have the garage given you any logical explanation as to why the work has not been carried out after 3 weeks? There could be a genuine reason for this delay but the fact that you are extremely inconvenienced and without transport through not fault of yours for this length of time is bad. The garage or Toyota should have provided you with a temperary vehicle as a measure of looking after a customer. They didn't have to give you anything fancy but it would not kill them to give you something just to limit the major pain in the ass of the whole situation.

Get on to Toyota Ireland straight away, you need to complain to them.

Yes the garage is waiting on toyota to give the go ahead !!!

Rang toyota Ireland today and "due to a technical fault" they only received details on it today!!!!

To be honest about the comment on being pacient !!!!

Well if they kept us informed on anything or where a bit helpfull i might be, but the fact that they "the garrage or Toyota Ireland" dont care or neither are willing to give us any kind of replacement vehicle is what's killing me.

We are on our 3rd week of car hire and also have the repayments of Jeep to cover and i just cant afford it anymore!!!!

any offer of any vehicle would have been more than greatfully received but neither wanted to cover it or help us out.

as they said "it never happens" so you would think either of them would have made an acception to the rule and given us some sort of vehicle!!!

I have a 2006 Landcruiser commercial with 71k on clock. Recently the engine seized without warning. McCoys in Leixlip say that they never saw the like of the damage. The piston had almost melted in the first cylinder. A lecturer in the engineering dept of Bolton St saw the damage and also could not understand how it happened. There was adequate oil and coolant present. I had the vehicle serviced regularly with the next service interval occuring in the next 100 km! The garage doing the servicing are no longer in business and I cannot access their records. Toyota are saying that they will only honour the warranty if I can provide a full service history. Has anyone had a similar experience

You might not like this, I f you read your warranty booklet. Its the customers responsability to maintan the said vehicle and keep there records, without warranty will not be valid.

    Sorry my friend

Was your service book not filled in and stamped when you got your services done?

Surely the garage have a set of wheels they can lend you while this is being sorted???

Just noticed last night when watching sky and advert came on stating that Toyota are now offering 5 years Warranty as standard on all new cars (which is assume is in the UK).

I looked on toyota ireland website but could'nt find anything at all re warranty - will Ireland be left behind as usual.
