Encouragement

Never posted here before but thought I'd stick this up to give people a bit of encouragement.

I'm a guy - moderately attractive, intelligent etc. - that can't talk to girls very well. As friends/workmates yup, no problem. But find it very hard to chat girls up or pick up signals from girls that are interested.

Anyway last weekend ended up in the pub with some acquaintances (not even close friends) and through them met a bunch of people. It was a large group and as we were leaving I got chatting with a very beautiful girl. Ordinarily I would have chatted and left and later regretted it (you all know the story).

But with a bit o' the auld carpe diem spirit I piped up - could I get your number off you? So we swapped numbers and I walked away a happy man.

Rang her today and asked her out for a coffee and lo and behold she happily agreed. Have to say this is the first time I've ever gotten a number of a virtual stranger after only 3 minutes of conversation.

So lads (and girls!) - sometimes it's worth just going for it.

Nice one OP, and i'd agree, asking a girl out is not actully the hard bit for some.

Well done OP, best of luck with it. And fairplay for letting others know that it is possible. i'm sure 99.9% of boardsers and 100% of humans will appreciate it..

OP, well done! Like you, I find myself in your shoes quite often. Having a few female friends I really get on with, but being completely inept when it comes to talking to strangers.

What I would love to know is the secret to breaking the ice. I just don't know what to say without sounding cheesy or moronic and eventually wishing the ground would open up and swallow me whole.
