i'm looking at getting a mirage or something similar (2 door coupe, not hatch) as it is a relativly sporty looking car yet still has a small 1.3 engine. being young and male the insurance on anything larger is a bit of an issue...

anyone have one, any good or anything similar to recommend, preferably japaneese.

    thanks

Can't really think of anything similarly sporty with 1.3 engines, unless you want to go into Glanza territory :D

Just got myself a 96 Mirage at the beginning of the year. Lovely car (imo. It's my first :o). Insurance is €1600 TPFT on a provisional at 23.

anyone else got an opinion on this car??

A friend of mine had one a few years ago, and it was a lovely car to drive.

Unfortunately, his was stolen and wrapped around a pole. Lesson: put in an immobiliser.

it seems quite hard to find a newer one though, 00 as opposed to 96,97.

i guess those that have them like them and keep them....

I had a 98 hatchback Mirage and then a 98 coupe up until last August... mine were 1.3 automatics though.

Great cars. Not a day's bother with either of them. Would definitely recommend them.

Im currently driving a Mitsubishi Mirage Asti 1.3, and bought it for the exact same reason you are... cheap insurance, cheap tax, sporty looks, watch out for wheel bearings, exhaust holes, and be aware that the low mileage you see on most jap imports is somewhat false, have a look in the adverts section, theres a few in there... hard car to sell afterwards though, ive been selling mine for the last month. And no this isnt a sales pitch to buy my car....:D

i would buy that today if i had the money now...
unfortunitly have to wait till i graduate and have a real job:D

They kinda have a bit of a knacker image problem....

I'm a huge Mitsubishi fan, but that's how I see the Mirage coupes...

Ah I don't think they're that bad, mostly the knacker ones are Purple with a Massive Mivec badge on the back and a girl driving it that you wouldn't wanna run into down an ally! I think the regular ones are quite nice, same as a Colt I think and they're great cars.

My mother nearly bought one back in the day! they're a grand inoffensive colt-with-a-boot but they seem to be exclusively driven by scumbags these days.

no offence to any decent mirage/asti drivers

something like a 323f would be far better IMO

i had two of them. both automatic and were the slowest things on the road. still though, one was rock solid in reliability and was a pleasant, if boring car to drive. the other was in ****e but didnt look it. only found out when the brakes failed on me driving past parkwest. loved the cars in general, and wanted to buy the mivec one, but didnt in the end. if i had to go back, i would, but id buy a manual one.

pretty sure our op has bought and sold a mirage by now, his posts are 2 years ago. The new poster was looking for parts.

    Well spotted DaMonk!

To the OP, just get one out of a Colt, that should do the trick.
