[rant] Some silly biddy knocked my bike over in the college car park this evening. It never fails to amaze me how someone can hit the only bike in a big car park

I haven't checked the bike properly , just looks like a bent reg plate.

    AGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

    Feel a lot better now

I drove my 916 home from London after buying it. Stennaline damaged the side stand without my knowing it after tying it down too tight, and when I got home, I put it on the side stand, made coffee, and heard a bang. There is no worse feeling than seeing your pride and joy on it's side like someone put it to sleep.

Best of luck sorting yours mate!

Walking down Grand Canal Street before christmas I saw a big Varadero on it's side. Blown over in high winds. I'd say it's nasty to find your bike in that state

Did you have any redress with Stennaline...?was there much damage done...?

I am just back from buying a bike in London and I was thinking about this kind of thing happening for the whole ferry trip.

Enough damage, plastics scuffed, indicators smashed, and mirror scuffed badly too. Stenna told me to more or less go jump "As the damage occurred off site, please refer the matter to our solicitors". Happily, as I'm in the Motor Trade, I was able to repair it cost effectively (Read : € 800 Euro).

It could have been a case for the small clams court.

I was concerned with something like this happening myself. When I went on the ferry I used the side stand, no problems though.

Is the centre stand an option on the ferry?

No. Well not when I was on it.

The sidestand on my Enfield is dodgy, but the nice worker told me not to put it on the centre stand because it is not stable at all on that.

If you think about it, the bike is clamped down over the seat, resting on the front wheel with the back wheel up in the air. The boat rocks over sideways, the pressure of the bike wanting to slide forward and the tie downs pushing the bike to the deck, all that happens is the bike slides either sideways and onto its side, or it comes off the stand and rolls forward into whatever cars are in front of you.

At least on the sidestand, the bike is supported by three points which is far more stable than a top heavy two.

    L.

Agree with last post, centre stand is never viable for crossing on a ferry, ALways go for the side stand, and always make sure yourself of the bindings before you leave it, never leave it to the idiots on the boat. Double check all.
