    Southernhunter,
    BB's or # 2's - #4's but whatever is handy, usually.

    A .223 or a .243.

    Depending on the distances..
Standard BB, AAA.. 3.5inch BB for covering large breaks on beats..

    Perfered choice 55gr BT .223 rounds! :D

Depend on the length of your gun chambers but just buy something witha big shot and good bit of powder behind i've only standard 2 3/4 chambers so i was using #2's with 40g of shot they were RC's but if you have 3" chambers you'll be looking for 56g of #0 or something.

Rifle would do a better job at it thought if you can get ahold of one

I wouldn't fire too many rounds in a t-shirt alright but with a jumper on and in the semi auto they're not that bad at all. The spent cartridge does fly some distance though.

Dont think a .233 would go down well with the lads on a fox drive:D
Anyone else shoot foxes in this way?
It's a great way to spend a Sunday morning:)

Often do the old Sunday morning beats!

We actually have banned all magnum and super magnum loads.
Nothing bigger than BB can be used while beating it's to dangerous if someone fires along the line or into a beat! and trust me it happens no matter how much experience some of these people have!

If a beat is correctly lined out and correctly beated foxes should break directly into guns.

    Hi,

I use 0's when on the Sunday hunt with dogs & .223 (Remington 45gr JHP) when lamping at night. I recently changed from Sako 55gr SP as they were constantly travelling through the body after taking down the fox. The new ones stop within the body, much safer.

I agree the heavier 223 rounds are a little sketchy with night shooting. The lighter round works well all you need is to take the critter down avoiding any livestock in the backdrop.

Tell me if I’m O.T.T. but I used to shoot fox with Remington SLUG hence the nick name.

in Cyprus there were selling some Italian green Cartridges 56g i think . 2 3/4 which were suitable for long range 200 m. i cant remember their name though... sure you could shoot a fox with them. does anyone remember?

I use AAA (with shotgun) and have been out with the club the last few Sundays. I also lamp foxes but there is a great bit of banter when you do a fox drive. But agree safety has to be paramount.

I found the 45grain remingtons to be a great bullet for the same reason trojan they disperse nearly all there energy in the body,i found nearly all the .223 soft point rounds tend to go straight through with a fair bit of energy remaining one fox i shot with a 64gr federal power shock the bullet traveled the full length of its body at an angle i had a good backstop(never fire without one)the bullet then hit a rock 30yrds behind the fox splitting it in half then ricocheting off into the distance:eek:Not my cup of tea at all i would'nt
    use them for foxes anymore.
Sorry for wandering off topic:rolleyes:but would the 3.5" bb's give you much extra yards over a standard alphamax 3" shell?I have a new 3.5" chambered gun but that size is all new to me,i got a box or two of 63gram cartridges cant wait to give them a go:)

    Tikka

3.5" BB's may mean a visit to a physiotherapist, I'd stand against a tree when you pull the trigger. I don't think youd get that much more poke to be honest.:D

I dropped a fox at about 50 yrds with alphamax AAA last Sunday, no bother 3", semi auto double tap. Now saying that most of the foxes I've gotten have all been 20-30 yrds previously coming at me as they break cover
