Gastroenteritis V Diarrhoea

    just wondering can some one settle a bet .....
    are gastroenteritis and Diarrhoea the same condition, or is gastro a diagnosis and diarr. a symptom.... they have the same icd-9 code for the coding of illness's....

    Yep gastroenteritis is a condition with many causes and symptoms. Diarrhoea is a symptom of gastroenteritis, but of hundreds of other conditions as well.

    Gastroenteritis is the inflammation of the stomach and bowel and can be caused by anything, but commonly by viruses or more seriously by bacteria.

    Diaorrhea is a symptom and can be caused by a great many things INCLUDING gastroenteritis.
