    Afternoon all.

I was planning on buying a new motor next month.
Im presently driving a 00 318 and was considering moving to a 03/04 Jaguar X-Type as the new model 3series is way out of my price bracket.

Has anyone got any opinions on this car? Good, Bad or indifferent.

    Any advice appreciated.

Some good info in the mondeo issue here:

    Personally I'd love a jag :)

Based on the Mondeo, as Mike said. This is a good thing and results in the X-type being a good allrounder. I'd go for a petrol V6 4WD myself

From a fanboy on a forum on the internet somewhere? I wouldn't call that "good info" necessarily ;)

Some people have accused Jaguar of dumbing down the marque with the X type, of tarnishing a hard-earned reputation for motoring excellence.
Many would argue that it's a dull and uninspiring car.
I'd like to categorically state that I disagree with this assertion.
In fact, only the other day one passed me by and I

Was this before or after British Leyland?

I'd buy a good spec Mondeo before I'd buy a Jaguar tbh.

    A Jaguar X-Type is a good spec Mondeo ;)

In fairness to Ford, they should be credited with a complete turnaround in quality / reliability over the past decade or so. Especially so with the Land / Range Rover, Ford and Jaguar brands

Imo, those people that say a Jaguar X-type is a Mondeo in drag are paying the car a compliment.

Mostly before, I would have thought. Plenty of good stuff since though.
