Dual Booting XP with Vista

    I am debating installing Vista on my machine, but I would like to dual boot untill I am certain I am happy with it. Rather than run it in a virtual machine, i need to see how it reacts with my hardware and developer apps.. I did an install on a laptop for a developer last week and it was a bit of nightmare with software compats especially the likes of SQL Server dev edition and virtual PC.

    Is it possible. I had heard rumours that it wasnt possible. I have a spare 60GB partition and probably could free up an entire 160GB disk if needed.

    Thanks

    I got a 2nd harddrive and now have "cough" an oem version of vista installed on that.
    I hope you're not suggesting that you're using a pirated version of Vista, since this forum is only chartered to allow people support others who have purchased Windows-based products. But then, you wouldn't be that silly after 3 years here, would you?

    <sigh>

    The OEM license is a work of genius.

    You can only use it on the motherboard it was supplied with.
    - You can't install it on a machine you already have.

    It dies with the motherboard. The only exception is where the manufacturer replaces the motherboard under warranty.

    It corrupts upgrade licenses
    - If you put an upgrade an OEM license, say, on an old machine , you can't upgrade the motherboard later without loosing the license.

    Just because you can con someone on microsoft's hot line to authenticate your license does not make it legal.

    Just because microsoft doesn't prosecute dealers who sell OEM without motherboards doesn't mean it's legal. ( if only )

    90% of windows licenses are OEM and most of the rest are probably corporate or upgrades tainted by an OEM license
