Maybe try using Skype or something as an alternative?

I'm waiting on a landline from Eircom so it'll only be a temporary thing. I can't get broadband/wireless internet where I am unfortunately. When I do get the landline I'll be going with UTVIP as they give free calls to Ireland and the UK which I'll make good use of! :)

    always a good bookmark

Call13434 on their carrier select service offer calls to uk mobiles at 5c min.

    Otherwise 15c min.

eta, sorry, just read mobile. National rate call price, depends on who you are with.

I use the 3 Talk/Text 200 for €25 month. I have it so I get 200min talk time and pay for texts. Those mins can be used against any UK landline or Mobile.

    Hi

Not sure if it will be cheaper than telestunt or any of the the mention above.

If you get a PAYG account with Blueface.ie yu can have it setup to dial a Dublin number and after dial your required number. So you will pay your Dublin call to Eircom and the UK call to bluface they under just over 1 cent a minute Off peak.

    Regards

If you register a credit/debit card with these: http://www.13434.ie/mobilerates.php you can make your call for 1c per min UK landlines and 6c per min UK mobiles (plus a 5c connection fee) and the cost of a call to the 13434 landline access number. If you have inclusive landline mins with your mobile you could use these to make the call anytime, and pay just 1c per min. If not you can make the call off-peak and it'll be cheaper.

For example on Meteor's LeisureTime Plus tariff (not their standard tariff): http://www.meteor.ie/payg_plans_leisuretime.html it'll cost 13c per min off-peak to call the 13434 exchange then 1c per min to call the UK equal to 14c per min.

On Vodafone's standard PAYG tariff: http://www.vodafone.ie/readytogo/tariffs/standard/index.jsp it would be 15c per min off-peak plus the 1c per min equal to 16c per min in total.

With O2's standard PAYG tariff it would be 15c per min plus 1c per min, so 16c per min in total, or at weekends 12c plus 1c, that's 13c per min: http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/connect/O2/Home/Personal/Price+plans/Speakeasy+prepay/Night+owl

It might be a good idea to purchase a new/upgrade phone with a load of free credit and make all the calls off-peak. For example this one: http://www.meteor.ie/makethemove/phones_alcatel_elle.html You're getting €120/100 or €130 upgrade credit by spending €59 that's effectively getting all your calls half price. So with Meteor off-peak that would be 6.5c per min plus, if you use 13434, 1c per min meaning you're ringing the UK from an Irish mobile for less than 8c per min.(remember to change your tariff with Meteor online or by dialing 1905. )

If you haven't a credit or debit card and you're with Vodafone there may be another option. They're the only mobile phone operator that charges true landline peak/off-peak rates for 1890 numbers. So you could use the dial around companies Telestunt (www.telestunt.ie) or Dialwise (www.dialwise.ie) to ring the UK off-peak for 15c per min. Although sometimes these numbers are blocked by the mobile operators; or the dial around companies themselves won't carry the call and want you to use their more expensive 1520 numbers. If you're with Vodafone you might be able to use these, or other 1890 dial around services and be able to call at landline rates.
