If you tell people what your interests are they might be able to help.

Are you looking to go off the beaten track, no where full of tourists, cold/hot weather, backpacker trip or hotels, adventure or easy going holiday.

I'm i the same situaution here. Looking to go away for around 4-6 weeks during the summer. Went interrailing last year so planing on heading further afield this time round, but can't seem to decide on anywhere. Ideas that have been floated around are Mexico, Cuba and the usual SE Asia.

It'd be a backpacking holiday and being done on the cheap hopefully, staying in hostels, campsites, etc.

Somewhere in the sun, nice and hot. Nice beaches.

Somewhere with good (and cheap) nightlife.

Somewhere with a bit of adventure, i like the idea of spending a few days sitting on a beach somewhere but i don't plan on doing it for 6 weeks. Would like to travel around a bit, see interesting stuff tha i won't see again and generally have a bit of an adventure.

Anyone any ideas or suggestions? Or been to any of the places i mentioned and have any exeriences to share?

    Thanks.

How about Thailand, max? I was going to head there myself for 3 months this summer, but there's been a recent spate of bombings in Bangkok, which turned me off. There's been none since, but I'm a wuss, so I'm heading for the safer option -- Europe! :D (check your PM's by the way!). But I'd still love to go at some stage... It has a very large backpacking contingent, lots and lots of beaches and islands, a great nightlife (Google search 'Full Moon Party' and check wikipedia), and lots of interesting things to do (climbing, scuba, snorkelling, quad biking, etc). Worth researching anyway!

PM sent Dave, yeah i know all about Thailand, think half of South County Dublin have been, looking for somehting a bit different i think, although not completely ruling Thailand out. Is the weather not a bit sh*t during the summer?

    Cuba.
Pretty cheap and nice climate, definately different. Plus it mightn't be long till Castro snuffs it, so could be the last chance to see this country in all her glory as it is now.
There's a good chance within the next decade it'll be just another member of the Global village.

No. I can only dream. Planning on a year off travelling, within the next two years for sure. As soon as I clear my debts - Only to build them back up again :D

I'd probably head East to West on my way to New Zealand/Australia, taking in the likes of Cuba and parts of South America.

Not sure about the flights, but they'd definately be the only expensive part.
They were talking about Cuba on Newstalk a few weeks ago as an underrated destination, if your after something different. It doesn't get much credit but it does have some really nice beaches. Typical Caribbean. The main fault is that the food apparently is awful.

Most tourists are concentrated around the islands.
