Correct. BMW Motorrad, BMW, and MINI are all offering their own insurance now.

The BMW Motorrad insurance is under-written by Eagle Star, and is similary priced to Carole Nash (but they are reviewing their pricing).

This Adelaide offering is a different operator. The more the merrier. :)

BMW would want to review their pricing alright - their quote to me was over double what i am paying Carol Nash and they wont let you put a second bike on the policy - you have to take out a separate policy.

as far as i know it is only BMW bikes , which I find strange as you would imagine that in a small market like in Ireland you would need to offer it to all bikes in order to make money.

You would think, but from what I have anecdotally heard/read, BMW believe that BMW riders are less of a risk than other "common" folk who cannot afford a proper bike.

    :D

And, from what I have also anecdotally heard/read, they believe that their customers also are willing to pay a hefty premium to be privileged to be insured by the same company that sold them their bikes.

    :D

I would certainly like to see Adelaide and e-bike (the other alleged insurer) enter the Irish market. e-bike are the crowd that offer discounts for R+G's shrooms (and possibly similar products from other manufacturers) because they genuinely can help reduce costs claimed as part of FC policies. (i.e. dropping the bloody thing off its stand)

Why would they want to sell insurance to riders of other manufacturers bikes? They're in it to sell more bikes, not to create competition in the Irish market! BMW sell bikes and cars, they don't sell insurance. That's Eagle Star's job. They're just putting a BMW badge on it.. I'm sure they're making a few quid out of it, but most would be going to the actual underwriters (The number you dial, is an Eagle Star number, staffed by Eagle Star employees).

6 Months ago, a dealer told me that BMW were introducing an insurer so that bikers could take BMW bikes for test rides and pay for a day's insurance). I reckon this offering is just a by-product of that introduction.. If we can insure for a day, why not insure for a year and make a little money.

As for BMW riders being lower risk, sure aren't all BMW riders over the age of 50, all bmw bikes slower than anything else on the road, and constantly broken down and off the road?
    <insert random prejudiced remark here> :D

..you are of course, correct. Up 'til yesterday I was one such person. Slipper wearing, pipe smoking, 30-something.............then my RT moved to Dublin, and my H-D arrives next Wed...........

So, talk to me now, before I become an uninsurable sociopathic loon........only 2 days left :D:D

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Whassup with the "Group/Affinity" fields on Adelaide's online registration form (you have to register to get a quote)? Do you have to be a member of one of these groups before they'll quote you, or what?

It doesn't automatically give you a quote, by the way. Looks like it's just information gathering, and they'll get back to you.

Nice one Galwaytt. Well wear... So it's off with the slippers and on with the string vest, zz-top beard, and half-face helmet? :p

Post a picture... (of the bike, not you in the string-vest).

On the affinity/group thing, Wasn't it the same with Carole Nash originally? You had to be a Mag member, or other suitable group in order to get insurance from them? Not sure how important it is, but you can use: BMW GSers ireland, if needed.

Ah yes! I knew I'd come across something similar in the past, but my memory ain't what it used to be. ;)

We have been forced to announce our intentions now as there has been intense speculation and rumors in recent weeks.
Just last week they categorically denied to MAG Ireland any intention of entering into the market in the Republic

That's really NOT a good start guys... it works out better for all concerned when we work together.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I was looking at the floorplan for next month's bike show to see if was worth going to this year. They're now listing 4 insurers with stands - the current 2 plus Quinn Direct and eBike.

    Choice at last!

We should be so lucky. Quinn Direct will probably be offering Insurance for Helmets, and SatNavs knowing the Irish Insurance Market - just kidding, I really hope they do indeed offer bike Insurance.

Hasn't the bike show been moved to October/November, or was it my imagination?

*Edit - Yes, it was indeed my imagination*
