Folks, my mother got sky+ in last week and the installer that put it in made a mess of it. First, she got a new leather couch before xmas, when he left there was a hole in the side of it, not very visible, but there all the same. he also told her he had to install the phone line because the neighbours could hack into her sky if it wasnt connected to a phone line ? !!!! if i was there when he said that i would have ran him! he also charged extra for the phone line,(i thought this was standard now ) the one he didnt even plug in because it needed a double addapter ( existing phone socket) didnt go through how is works or anything.... absolute disgrace if you ask me, what do you think i should do, its going to be near imposible to prove he damaged the couch, my word against his !

    Small claims court.

You dont need a lawyer and if you loose you dont get stuck with his costs

I doubt the Small Claims Court would take this up.

I've a hunch that they are concerned primarily with the main item being transacted. They may not consider a case involving any ancilliory damage in the provision of goods.

It's worth a punt however, as it's only something like €12 to apply a case and you don't need to hire a solicitor.

You don't say what he has said since you confronted him about it. Please elaborate.

he was never confronted, it was only done during the week and noticed a few days ago. Will be calling sky and letting them know myself.

That cowboy deserves to be sorted out.

The Sale of Good and Supply of Services Act 1980 states that services provided by a professional person must reflect reasonable skill, i.e. care should be taken in carrying out the work, the professional should be diligent and actually have the required skill.

Okay, while this guy may well be a cowboy, you haven't even given him a chance to pay for the damages he may / may not have caused or known he has caused.

You arrive on here asking what your next step should be, before you even confront the man who you claim caused the issue. How do you expect people to i've any sort of reasoned advice? You've made it into what may not actually be a problem in the end. You'd look great in any court arriving up with such a situation....

Arive in court/post a question on boards. Apples and oranges.

And as for reasoned advice, that may go down the road of "oh, i had something like that happen me, here is a phone number i used, email address, this should be your next step"

Oh !...................... And if you have nothing useful to add.........
