Sunday Million Advise for Tourney Newb

Hey all, I won a ticket into the Sunday Millions on Stars tomorrow.

I've been wanting to play this a long time now. I haven't had much experience with tourney's and was hoping some of you could give me advise on how to play a tourney this big.

I generally play a tight aggressive game. 6 Max.

I really wanna play in the big game, but there is also the warm up game. Should I be considering playing the early game instead? I understand it's a 8/9 hour game, but I'll call in sick to work if I go deep in it.

Hope you can share some gold dust ;)

Unregister and enter the warm up game. Alot better chance in this IMO

I predict you will get some bad advice in this thread but this will be the worst. The Million is way softer than the warm up game as it is satellite-qualifier heavy.

Play tight until you get short stacked and then go all in a lot.

I've only played in this once (I managed to cash :)). And in this wealth of experience, I found that it really is just a case of playing TAG and not over rating your opponents. You're not going to be playing tables full of HJ's, Roundtower's and NFR's. Just play tight and aggressive poker, don't be afraid or overawed and you should be fine. Forget about the money you're playing for. I know it's difficult when you're playing for, what would be a sizeable % of your BR had you bought in directly, but all that does is upset your game and put you off playing properly.

Then just prey you don't run AA into KK when a K flops. so run well and take it down, now break a leg.

fold KK to pushes from under the gun...especially when jacks have been coming out a lot....

Pay attention to people who limp then fold to a raise PF. Blind stealing wise, if you raise people give you more credit for a hand if you are raising after a limper and your fold eq for the blinds goes up a lot.

    E&OE

well done peeko, STE05 is spot on imo, don't think about the money, just play TAG poker, just try to make good decisions and enjoy it, as you say it takes 8 to 9 hours so try to relax yourself into the tournament, don't get too wound up early on. Anyway go for it and gl.

An alternative piece of advice, if you're not used to playing tournies much, is to unregister from the tournament and not play in it.

You then get the buy-in in tournament$ and can enter a lot of smaller SNGs and MTTs - gaining a lot more experience for your money, and, in the SNGs anyway, a greater chance of cashing.
