Trains for Manchester Piccadily leave from Liverpool Lime Street. Some service from Lime Street also operate direct to Manchester Airport. The Travel/Holidays forum was probably a better place to post ;)

National Express also do a bus service from Norton St. Bus station in Liverpool direct to Manchester airport - and sometimes it's quicker than the train.

Try this website. I have often booked my rail tickets in advance online.

That website charges a booking fee, the train operating companies do not.

To the OP: I wouldn't bother using the online booking, for that route the cheapest tickets are available at the ticket office before departure at any time.
    (£9.90 single or £12.60 return)
You won't save anything by buying online and you would be stuck with tickets you don't need if your plans change. You would also have to collect them from the station anyway as the websites don't post outside the UK.

The weekday schedule is one direct train per hour at xx.14 and two connecting services per hour via Manchester Piccadilly at xx.22, xx.52. Journey time is 70-80mns
