    Hi All

Just a quick question , i am thinking of buying a 1976 CHEVROLET CAMARO the car is a 1976 model but on the log book it says Date of 1st Registration in the UK -1980- etc. would i still qualify for €50 VRT charge as it is a 1976 classic car

Yes. I have a 75 Jag, registered in the UK for the first time in 2001, I paid €50 registration and €40 Road Tax.

Tread carefully here, as if it does not mention the original Date of first registration from where the car was first registered, they could give you a hard time at the reg office!!! As long as the original date of 1st registration is on the document somewhere, you're grand, but if it's not, you're going to have to prove that the car was registered before 1977 somehow!

Date of manufacture isn't really good enough, (especially if there aren't that many years between manufacture and registation... ) as it explicitly states in the VRT regulations, that it must be the Date of 1st Registration...

Years back, I had a similar problem with a 68 Porsche 912, that somehow had a date of 1st registration in Italy of 1977 on it, which at the time was NOT VRT exempt yet, and there was no other mention of any other previous 1st registration dates on the documentation.
I was lucky in that with Porsches, you can determine the precise date of manufacture by looking at the chassis number, but I had to physically prove to them, by printing out Chassis number specifications and breakdowns, that the Porsche 912 with the Chassis number it was bearing, was in fact a 1968 model and could be determined as such. Also the 912 was only produced until 1969, so it would be unlikely that it would have been left in a showroom somewhere and never registered for 6 or 7 years... They weren't overly impressed with the material I gave them, but ultimately they gave in and I was allowed to register it for the 50 euro VRT.

If there is a recognised Club they will accept evidence from them of date of manufacture I think...

should have no problem with it ,it is a 76 chevy, log book should say when it was built. you can contact GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA with the vin number and they will be able to tell you its exact date of manufacture. , think it costs bout $30 for this, hope this is of help to you.
