Not sure when the next big game is, but I haven't turned on my Wii in the last week either. I've mostly been playing PS2 in the last week (catching up on games I missed).

Super Paper Mario I think could be the next big first party title. Third party is up in the air. You could also catch up on some gamecube games you missed too.

This kind of post launch slump is to be expected. Every console generation experiences this, just be happy that there is one classic game on the system already. I'd expect a trickle in Feb/March/April/May and then some heavy hitters start appearing by June (including hopefully some 3rd party games we haven't heard of at this point).

There is a bit of a game-drought at the moment, it's unfortunate and something Ninty should work on, but most consoles experience that just after launch.

I have to say though, if you're looking for online gaming, the Wii is not the way to go? It was always clear it wasn't going to be another Xbox 360, that isn't what the Wii is about.

I think i did read somewhere that a few Online games are due for Wii in the coming months though.

I wonder how well they'll work though. Nintendo have said in the past that they don't think online gaming is the future, and it isn't something that interests them (they said this when the GC was out). Their system definitely isn't set up for it tbh (blegh friend codes!)

I think Nintendo are taking online gaming a lot more seriously now since the DS service is so popular. Still I wouldn't expect an xbox live challenging system. Rumours are that Metroid Prime 3 was delayed until the online service is up and running and will be launched as the services killer app. The release date of MP3 looks more and more like a late 2007 release so I'd say we can't expect online gaming until then.

    - Excite truck is out in feb 16
    - Wario Ware is out, kinda crazy game, fun
    - Sonic is out 20th feb in the US, maybe EU??

March/april is when there are a load of games (hopefully EU)

    Super paper mario
    Godfather
    Scarface
    Driver: parallel lines
    POP
    TMNT
    Mortal Kombat

There are also some MIA games like Trauma Centre, suppose to out in Q1.

These are just off the top of my head.

While there is a drought right now, it will not last long, a month or two and then there will be loads of choose from hopefully. As long as these are released in the EU though.

Maybe one or two of them will be 8-9s worth a full price purchase.

I have my money aside of excite truck anyway.

Excite truck is out in feb 16 - looks crap
Wario Ware is out, kinda crazy game, fun - fun but fleeting
Sonic is out 20th feb in the US, maybe EU?? - no faith in sonic games anymore
Super paper mario - will be good - but only a carry over from gamecube.
Godfather - wow - that's an old game.
    Scarface - crap
    Driver: parallel lines - crap
    POP - PSP port
    TMNT - probably crap
Mortal Kombat - does anyone care about Mortal Kombat anymore?

Trauma Centre - should be good - though probably not as much as the DS version.

Mario wonht be too far hopefully, smash bros will hopefully be online too. That will be fantastic. HNot really sure what else, though i think medal of honour airborne looks promising. And scarface was meant to be a great laugh despite being a rip of GTA

    And now some optomism.

Excite truck is out in feb 16 - Wont play, but have heard its fun.
Wario Ware is out, kinda crazy game, fun - Appears to be fun but not really a great time consumer.
Sonic is out 20th feb in the US, maybe EU?? - I have faith in Sonic.
Super paper mario - Never played Gamecube so yeah Ill like any mario.
Godfather - You're thinking of Mafia as an old game, Godfather was released last year. GFX look not too good tho.
Scarface - Didnt buy on PS2 simply cos I didnt have the money after PES6/Bully/VCS but rented it and loved it.
Driver: Not a fan of Driver tbh, nothing compares to GTA.
    POP - Dunno this one.
TMNT - Anything with TMNT on it is not crap, actually its awesome.
Mortal Kombat - I care a lot about Mortal Kombat and use with the Wiimote will add to it, plus Mk: Armageddon, all charachters from every series. WooT!

Trauma Centre - should be good - though probably not as much as the DS version.

Excite truck - Definitely buying, on launch if necessary.
Wario Ware - Great fun, i flip on the elephant minigames when people are over for a good laugh.
Sonic - No thanks, ill pick it up on VC.

Super paper mario - Oh yes, buying on launch.
Godfather - Perhaps not... but you never know.
Scarface - Same as above, but with added doubt.
Driver: parallel lines - I've not bought a serious racing game since Gran Turismo 2, so maybe.
POP - When i thought it was PoP2 i said no, since it's 3... perhaps.
    TMNT - Pfft, no thanks.
Mortal Kombat - I want to be surprised.

Trauma Centre - I'll get it, but perhaps not on launch.

    oh crap forgot

SSX Blur (March in US, hopefully here too)- Defo buying this

Sonic has been getting good previews, might be worth a rent, whenever Xtravision get the wii finger out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 Moussdog

The only games worth buying on the wii are the games that are tailored specifically to the wii control system i.e wario ware, excite truck, zelda etc. and we can only hope a continuous stream of these will be available.

But you can't get excited over a below par offering of such tripe as "Scarface" or "Driver". To see a good example of how badly some of these games will port is evident in Far Cry. Holy Jaysus if only there was a suicide button.

Oh yeah and mortal kombat lost it ages ago (after Mk3) when it turned in to GI Joe combat with their crappy 3D dolls fighting eachother.

I'm looking forward to Sonic, (Out in the EU in March by the way) Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, and another Zelda title.
God Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart online would be amazing!
That would be a big step in the right direction for Nintendo.

I have to say though, I was looking forward to more about the GameCube than I am about the Wii unfortunately.

Same here. Katamari, God of War and Guitar Hero are all making sure my ps2 gets a hell of a lot more play time than the Wii.
Warioware was fun for all of 3 hours... I want another game of substance to keep me going:(

I'm far from bored with mine. I've Zelda, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Rayman and WarioWare, plus a handful of VC titles! I use it almost every day, even if only for a quick blast on Bomberman! :D

I would imagine the Wii has caught a lot of 3rd party developers off guard, who dismissed Nintendo after the N64 and GameCube. I'm not sure anyone predicted the success of the Wii sales 6 months ago. So unfortunately it will be a case of developers playing catch up, and I doubt we will start seeing a regular stream of quality 3rd party games for a least a year.

But there is good news as it seems developers are now finally taking the Wii much more seriously than the N64 or GC. I was reading there that EA have formed a dedicated studio for the Wii. This will hopefully mean that their games take full advantage of the control system, which ultimately will be the biggest hurdle for game developers.

There is also the advantage that the Wii is supposed to live along side either a 360 or a PS3, not compete with it. Nintendo didn't expect people to buy a Wii over a 360 or PS3, and as such priced the Wii a lot cheaper than either of those machines. Since Nintendo are already making a profit on each Wii sold I would imagine the price will drop to around ¬150 before Christmas. This will increase take up even more, and hopefully encourage developers to bring out original games rather than just ports of PS3 and Xbox 360 games.

So without sounding too much like a fan boy, hang on in there guys :D
