    Hello

when computer is boothing the Pentium 4 logo stays on for 2m .20's and the xp starts normally. this didint happen when the old hd was in.

the two dvd drives are working and reading, and cables seem ok.

can any help me hear its head recking waiting 3 mins to start up!

    ps

You could try resetting to the default values in the BIOS and see if it does any good. Your hard drive might not be set as the first boot device or something.

Why did you need to recover the files in the first place? Did your Windows install become corrupted?
That, coupled with the hanging behaviour you describe, makes me wonder if the harddrive is on its last legs.
Is it making any unusual noises like clunks or clicks while you're waiting?

How did you recover the files using a second harddrive? Did you install Windows on the second drive after connecting it? (maybe the boot info on the new drive is looking for the OS on the old drive and then times out, loading the assumed default)

Did you change any jumpers? (master/slave/cs)

I'm not sure where this Pentium logo is coming from, is it a BIOS splash screen? (in which case you should turn it off in the BIOS options so you can see the POST output and see if it's trying to tell you something you're otherwise missing (probably listed as 'fullscreen logo show' or similar))

tried loading optimised setting and no joy.

the hardrive i recovered was from an old cpu. i just copied the files onto the hard in the computer. (so i had the original hd and the old hd in the cpu together).

    ???
    :confused::confused:

try clearing ur cmos.either by jumpers on board or by taking battery out for about 10 mins.
p.s make sure to ground yourself b4 going near mobo.also after u take out the power cord press power button as that gets rid of juice thats left.

Sounds like the drive currently installed could be in "slave" mode. Double check the jumper configuration just to be sure.

    Hi Texconnolly,

If the boot process is hanging on the Intel logo this is happening even before Windows is loaded. Could it have something to do with changed settings in BIOs, especially memory checking or the like?
If you are using a P4 PC you probably have a S-ATA main HDD that your system boots from? Check the settings in BIOS for these drives and also check the boot order for the drives themselves.
have you tried unplugging the DVD drivers if it makes a differnce? Be sure to save any changes you make in BIOS before you exit (check if there is a 'resote defaults' option in the BIOS and try doing that.
Check the BIOS manufacturers website for known issue (and also if they have an update for your BIOS version.
Good Luck with your efforts. be sure to let us know if and how you solve the prob.

Also, just in case, once system does boot, check in Event Viewer for any error messages ('Application' and 'System' logs)
