€97.50 for an OEM version of Vista Home Premium (32bit) on Komplett.ie

What's an oem version? Is it a full version?

    Not bad, considering the price

The OEM version is tied to the motherboard, mainly used for system builders, however in the event something happens and you replace the motherboard you can call Microsoft and they will re-activate it for you (normally the case but they have every right to refuse). Its basically a license to use it on one machine only but is full yes.

Note you must buy the motherboard to get vista at this price.

Cheapest I have seen is $99 from amazon.com

Says who? There's no mention of a hardware restriction on Komplett.
I remember on Komplett it used to say for XP OEM "Can only be purchased with a piece of hardware" (or some such) but that restriction was removed a few months ago. There's nothing about a hardware restriction on any Vista OEM versions since it was listed.

You don't need to buy hardware with Windows Vista OEM, but when Vista is installed on a PC, it is restricted to that hardware only (minor updates are ok, eg. RAM, HD).

Another downside is that OEM does not include Microsoft's technical support, since with OEM versions it is system builder's responsibility to provide the technical support (in case you decide to order OEM version, you are considered to be the system builder).

Wouldn't call that a downside. The full retail versions at 3 times the price only come with 90 days support. After that you pay around $70 per support call.

If anyone really, really want a full version of Vista, just wait untill all the Boards members who attended the MS TechNet Vista Launch get their free copies.

When they do there will be quite a few on adverts.ie .....IMO

Took this from Microsoft's US site, can't see this on the Irish site but if it is available it could take some of the sting out the price for some.

Interesting piece on The Register. It describes how to install a Vista upgrade without having to have a preinstalled XP/2000 whatever
