Do Eircom have the right NOT to facilitate broadband in an area where they say there won't be enough users of it?
    Thanks.

Sorry, I'll ask the question again.
Eircom will not update the exchange to allow any provider of broadband usage, can they refuse to do this?

Yeah,Its not part of their PSA (public service agreement) they don't have to do anything other than give you a phone and a number. To have this changed consult you local TD and ask them to make representations on having this changed.

Yep. You can't force them to do anything. And rest assured, they won't do anything.

Don't worry. The exchanges will be upgraded by 2011, although that will probably run on a bit. The modem should be defunct by 2015 or so. :)

Your only hope is wireless of some description.

Same idea as saying the railway should cover the whole country: don't hold your breath.

I seem to remember their legal requirment is a voice line (9 Kb/s in dial up speed) ....

I've looked into wireless but there was a problem with the range.
It's extremely frustrating for me as all the areas surrounding mine have been broadband enabled and Eircom's reason that we aren't is they don't believe there'd be enough users.
