Heard a story about 2 bikes stolen from Liffey Valley last Sunday.
They were loaded into a van with MOTORCYCLE RECOVERY on the sides.

Not sure if it is true but watch out anyway.

thanks for the heads up! i use liffey valley a lot as i only live down the road from it,i always leave the bike unlocked outside the permanent tsb entrance when i'm popping in and theres always a few bikes parked outside, tend to figure that theres so many people around that no one would try and steal it,you've just changed my mind:eek:

This is becoming more and more common around dublin. just before christmas, a bike was nicked from the underground car park i use. they lifted a honda bluebird in 10 minutes. They didnt touch mine cos of the alarm and mobilizer..... i hope!

They used to use fridge vans in the UK before , muffles the alarm . There is a good scheme going , you put a sticker on your bike that says its ok for others to lock their chain onto your chain ( ideal if there' s nothing around to lock them to) .

I heard of this scheme before and to be honest I wouldn't trust alot of people that park at shopping centers to lock their bikes to mine. What happens if some little 17 year old locks his scooter and forgets about the lock and tries to drive off

I'd be more worried about some guy going to the ciinema and you being stuck there for 2 hours.

Ah , I meant that you lock the chains to each other , so you can open either chain

Sort of like this http://www.odessaoffice.com/wireless/images/misc/chain.JPG , so someone with a key to any lock can open the gate

They don't lock their bike to your bike. They lock their lock to your lock. Either one of you can open your lock at any time and be on your way. It prevents people from being able to pick up just one bike and loading it into a van, the idea being that if a couple of bikes are daisy chained together no-one will be able to lift them.

course then you get the bikes setup by the thieves with this sticker on them...

Heard another scheme whereby they park up a few bikes together so people feel reassured and park alongside... van comes along etc etc

still reckon grenade + tilt switch is the order of the day - ala the road warrior

Well there is always the exception. I wouldn't generalise if I didn't see it happen too many times already.
