Investigation underway following bridge collapse in Co Kerry

    15:52 Thursday February 1st 2007

An investigation is underway in Co Kerry, after a bridge collapsed, causing a container to fall into the water, drowning a number of animals.
The incident happened before lunchtime at Lixnaw in north Kerry, when a truck carrying animals was travelling across the bridge at Ballinagar.

Gardai and Kerry County Council officials are at the scene and attempts are being made to lift the vehicle.

There are weight restrictions on the bridge, which was inspected before Christmas.
