Hi, I was just wondering what the process of going to a GP on your own is like. I know this might sound stupid but I'm 15 and I rarely need to go to the doctors (which is great) but everytime I have needed to, my mam would make the appointment etc.

This time I need to go on my own and I can't have my family finding out that I've been so I just had some questions...

    1) Roughly how much will it cost (just to see the GP, not any medicine)?
    2) Will I be allowed to pay in cash?
    3) Is their any paperwork if?
    4) If i need to pay for the medicine in the pharmacist will it get back to my parents because of paperwork?

Sorry if this sounds weird. I didn't know where to post it either...

At 15, I don't think a GP will treat you without parental consent. If you want, just get a parent to arrange the appointment, but don't get into too much detail.

In the order of 50 euros.
    2) Will I be allowed to pay in cash?
    Generally, yes.

The GP will enquire about your medical history, but there is unlikely to be any form filling. At 15, you may not know all teh relevant answers.

Pharmacists keep very little paperwork, but they do record what they dispense to each individual.

Could you explain why you need to go to a GP? We may be able to suggest something.

I think I'm depressed and am hoping he will prescribe anti-depressents of some kind.

I know you will all think I'm stupid, thinking I'm clinically depressed at 15 but I need to know. For the past couple of years I have felt horrible. I could get into it more but there are always 'im depressed' threads on here. I just needed to know if it were possible to go to a GP on my own descreetly.

Actually, I might need to go to a different one than normal because recently everyone has gotton to know me there because I did work experience in the pharmacy (and kinda the GP as well)...this would be ok, right? They won't have me on file or anything in a different place but they'll still take appointments, right?

And if it's my age. I'm 16 in September if thats make a difference to whether I can make an appointment or not.

Phone your GP and ask, and make an appointment.
