Gamers looking forward to swapping their currently useless Stars Points for Wii Points will have to trade in an estimated 8000 Stars to get just 2000 Wii Points when the offer opens later this year.

If this rumour, reported by German magazine N-Zone, is to be believed, you'll need to register 32 Wii or GameCube games, each getting you 250 Stars points to afford one 2000-point Wii Points Card. With each game costing £40, that works out at a whooping £1280, not to mention a tiresome code-entering chore.

It's all free stuff at the end of the day, which is a good thing but the European Stars Points Catalogue is still some way off the ultra-cool Japanese equivalent, which offers exclusive DS games and Nintendo figures.

    I am not amused.

I expected it to be poor alright, but not 8000 stars for 2000 points. Thats rubbish. Especially since you can't register more than one of any console.
I hope they'll grade it so that you can buy any number of points also and not force you to only get 2000 or something. Like if you have 500 points left after a transaction, you should be allowed to "buy" 300 points for a certain number of stars in order to upgrade from a NES game to a SNES or megadrive game.

Free is still free... then again, i think we all expected more free.

Some day Nintendo Europe will surprise me with an act of generousity. I kind of expected that they would rip us off on the star -> wii points conversion rate but not this badly.

Yeah, didn't expect much better either.

Would be super nice of them to offer a like for like swap, even just for a limited time before enacting a less favourable trade system, but that's seriously asking for a lot, especially considering the number of stars some people have!

It annoys me that the stuff like nun-chucks, classic controllers, second bongos etc aren't allowed. It's a unique serial, meaning I bought another item, I should be allowed to register all my bongos, not have them tell me I already registered one, that's majorly annoying.

Didn't expect better than that either. Also a new contract agreement on their site means that points are only valid for 12 months now too. They get wiped then, what a load of willy. Though you could just hold onto your star cards until you have loads.

i cant believe some of ye are getting work up about it

its free lads, think of it as a bonus

  • blub, i'll happily take your star points for the bongos off you if they're not working for you?

I think we should have a thread where people can swap their unusable points for others. I.e one person has super mario 64, it breaks, they buy another, have 2 super mario codes but only one works. They could swap one set for someone else's.

    back on topic..

I was really expecting a 2:1 offering, but 4:1, thats just harsh

I don't believe I have the cards anymore, I reckon they'll have saved them as registered anyway even though they refused to take them.

Maybe so but the star catalogue compared to the japanese and american equivalent is a joke. The japanese get limited edition DS games and nintendo figures and there are always loads available. We could wait up to a year before there is an old game available for a ridiculous amount of points and by the time we find out about it they are all gone in a matter of minutes. The japanese tha american points costs are pretty reasonable.

I don't care about using my Stars for Wii points, I want cool stuff on the catalogue, not stupid wallpapers.

All this will do is make sure the stars can only go towards Wii points, and that they won't bother changing the catalogue at all.

NOE are a joke with this. That's a disgrace. I was hoping for a 1:1 ratio, which is fair considering it's the bones of 10 games to get up to 2000. 2:1 would have been acceptable, but I'd still have complained a bit. 4:1 is a blatant slap in the face, especially given the huge success they've had since the Wii was released.

Yeah this is pure insult really. They were giving away DS games before for 5000 points, which was roughly 1:1 and now the same 5000 points would only get me 1250 points? = €12.50? That's a spit in the eye really.

    "rumour"

i know it looks bad and will suck if it's true, but i'm surprised at how many of you took this as gospel.

well, it should be telling enough that people are willing to accept it as probable truth without further proof. I think everyone's expecting to get screwed on the deal one way or another.

While it's easy to say "at the end of the day it's all free stuff", a casual gamer is not going to spend 1,300 notes on nintendo products in a year so the offer is meaningless. Those of us who've been members of the scheme for a long time might have those kind of points horded but to only trade them for 2000 points - the equivalent of 2 N64 games that I probably already own on cartridge - is just plain mean. At a 4:1 rate AND with 8000 points required to even make a conversion they'd be better off not bothering.

That said, it appears that you get star points for buying VC games according to my rewards list, they just haven't implimented them yet. As long as each one is worth 2000 stars, it's not all bad.... *crosses fingers*
