cant hear sound when i play my dvs on my dell pc

    i have dell dimesnion 5150..it can play music files etc..cds etc..except when i try to play dvds there is no sound...any ideas?

    Well this begs the obvious question is the mute enabled in the DVD player ?

    Not so obvious is the DVD player configured for SPDIF by any chance ?

    What player software do you use ?

    Install AC3 Filter and see if the audio plays afterwords.

    no the sound wasnt muted..the software i have is sonic cineplayer..i also tried windows media player...i installed the ac3 filter..i still cant get the sound...any other ideas?

    Try Media Player Classic as well just in case. Click File play DVD.

    Your sound cards properties aren't setup for SPIDIF by any chance ?

    As it is very unusual because AC3Filter would normally down mix the AC3 (DVD audio) to stereo with default settings so it should play the audio.

    Run AC3Filter Config go into it's start menu/program group to get to it then go to the system tab and make sure it is set like so
