Hi folks, I have just applied for my bike test, I was wondering will I be restricted to a particular cc size after my test or is this only for L riders. I am aged 33 BTW if that makes any difference. I want something big and I guess would be happy to put a restrictor on it.

    Many thanks for any advice.

if it's your A licence you will still be restricted for 2 years after so you can go up to 250cc (someone will point out that it is down to power to weight ration but 250cc is a rough guide)

Thanks, can I buy something bigger and put a restrictor on it?

you can have a restricted bike yes, but i don't know if you are allowed restrict it yourself.

i dont think the gardai enforce the whole restrict the bike thing? i remember when i bought a 650 and had only just passed the test. the shop owner told me not to bother restricting it!

    WooHoo!!! that's me...

cc is not the way to measure the restriction period.
power to weight (.16kw/kg) and overall power (25kw) must be adhered to.

    For example a stock Aprilia RS125 is a claimed 107kg and 25kw.
    My Royal Enfield is a 500cc and 24bhp ~ 18kw stock.

OP, you are restricted to both power conditions as outlined above, and yes you can get the bike restricted at probably any garage.

You will not notice the restriction drop in power from 40 - 33 as much as a 100 - 33 R6 or something.

    L.

What about the insurance company... Or do they not really care if your licence covers you so long as you pay the full rate.
