Is it legal to have different brands of tyres on the same axle on a car?

Its fine as long as size, speed rating and load rating are the same. Personally, I'd be happy enough as long as the thread patterns aren't drastically different.

It's legal but if I was buying a car and spotted 2 different makes of tyres on it I would walk away as it looks like a cheap ass tool owned it.

Legal, but not recommended. Skimp on anything else before tyres.
