    Hey man,
I'm thinking of starting longboarding. What board would you recommend? Is there much difference with speed/control and so on? What do you think would be a decent board for cruising around on?

Thats a klass video dude, was not aware that there were many tricks that can be done on a long board..just goes to show...you learn something new everyday!!

I would like to get some skateboard to practise for surfing. Could be longboard better? Or shall I get some "normal" skateboard?

I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. Just to keep me fit and to train my balance.

Any info welcomed. Even about free older boards ;-)

If you're really lookin to 'cross-train' (dry land surf practice) I'd defo go for a longboard rather than a 'normal' skateboard.
Longboards are more stable & closer to surfing (or even snowboarding) than a shorter board will be.

There are dozens of longboard companies out there & most skate/surf shops will stock somethin - Sector 9 & Arbour are 2 of the better names to look out for.

Not sure bout gettin a freebie, but I do know that the guy who runs Irish Snowboards is doing longboards too - you'll get his details at:

    www.irishsnowboards.com

The OP posted that nearly 3.5 years ago!

I do a bit of downhill longboarding in Phoenix Park near the old military fort. Try Kyber Rd (Closed footpath) or Military Rd (Open to cars) the are great spots for speed runs...

Count me in and send me PM, please, I am not on Boards daily. My longboard is getting rusty so far :-/ Must get out as soon as possible.
Phoenix park cycle lanes are brilliant for long cruises, especially when the sun is going down late in the evening.

    Hello everyone,

the 3rd week of September (15th - 26th) I will be longboarding through Ireland. My GPS-watch will keep track of my mileage, and for every kilometer I get an ammount of money from a couple of "sponsors". Read: random people that want to support the "Think Pink"-initiative. All money received will go straight to breast-cancer research and patient wellfare.

So now you know why :-) For me the "how" is the biggest question. I've never been to Ireland and I don't want to depend on Google-earth for road-conditions and steepness (I'll be riding a "double" board, a regular board that carries me. A board with only 1 truck that gets pulled behind me with my backpack, tent, food, water, etc.)

So can you Irish skaters do me a pleasure? Could you please send me (in PM so I don't screw up this thread) the roads you allready know are impossible? That way I can avoid those :-)
If you happen to know good roads that lead from one big town to another, that would be even better!
And if you have spots to bomb downhill, even if it's just a 500m slope or a parking garage, whatever. Just let me know.

You'll be seeing me in Ireland in a couple of weeks, so in case anyone wants to join me on (part of) the ride, you'd be verry welcome. I can allready a horde of boarders screwing up the Killarney traffic, imagin ;-)

Greetings from Belgium, and thanks in advance!
    Dimitri
