    Hey,

Has anyone been to San Diego or any of the beach towns around it? I'm finishing off a two week road trip of California with a chill out week somewhere around San Diego or LA later this year and am looking for recommendations..

Was checking out La Jolla and Mission Beach but would love some recommendations from anyone who has been there.. Or maybe there are some nice beach communities around LA?

    Thanks

i loved la and santa monica was gorgeous. san fran is meant to be fab but i didnt get a chance to go there. from what i heard san diego is boring. went to a place called oceanside which was very quiet but if your after beaches its got an amazing one. i'd say any beach in california is gorgeous. la has plenty to do as well. enjoy your stay there.

La Jolla is a very wealthy part of SD one or two hotels near the beach (which isnt great anyway) but rather exclusive and expensive .Have a look at some hotels/motels in Pacific Beach its about 10-15min drive south from La Jolla the beach is great , Mission is beach is basically an extension of the beech from PB no one really knows where one ends and the other begins.
South of the bay from MB/PB is ocean beach. its a bit run down and can be a bit rough , but still has its charms.
Id recommend staying near PB and renting a car and driving around . SD isnt a huge city and driving around isnt that hard. Public transport is limited near the beach . The trolley (train) runs mainly from downtown and south towards the border with mexico and inland to the subarbs. Id defo head to Mexico for a day and possibly night but get further south than Tijuana(its a dump). Head to rosarito or further bout 20-30 mins ($10 in a taxi) south from the border . There are some nice beachs there too but caution is needed to stay to the more "touristy" sites and hotels
