    complete newbie here but
i want to set up a new cable access point
    in another room.

I know that NTL do install another point but
    a) they just dont answer their phones
    b) its costs a fee and a monthly payment
    c) im sure that with the right tools i can
    do it myself

so can anybody tell me what i need to split the cable and
    get it in two rooms.

Would this affect the signal quality much also?

A GOOD QUALITY screened splitter (not those horrible white plastic Y splitters)

GOOD QUALITY double screened coaxial cable (not the cheap crap most hardware shops sell)

    Plugs, Couplers. and insulated staples
