    Hi all,

Ok I'm really going to try to bring a good tournament to all parts of the country over the next few months.
Last time we were in the Adelaide it was a really good event. Everyone enjoyed the game and got great value for money.

Obviously the casino would like to see a better turnout this time around but I'll just do my usual 'put on the best tournament I can' thing and see what happens.

We will be advertising this event and the Adelaide will be running newspaper ads so expect at least 40 runners if you're thinking of attending. We're trying to get a National Casino Clubs Tour organised were I go around the country spending my weekends running tournaments......Hopefully spreading the gospel of a good poker tournament.

Play will start at 1pm sharp (late reg open for first level only....cards will be in the air on time) Sunday 11th Feb and this will be a one day event.

8,000 starting stack. 45 minute levels.
    13:00 25 - 50
    50 - 100
    75 - 150
    15 minute break
    100 - 200
    100 - 200 Ante 25
    150 - 300 Ante 25
    15 minute dinner break
    200 - 400 Ante 50
    300 - 600 Ante 50
    400 - 800 Ante 75
    35 minute dinner break
    500 - 1000 Ante 75
    800 - 1500 Ante 100
    1000 - 2000 Ante 150
    15 minute break
    1500 - 3000 Ante 200
    2000 - 4000 Ante 300
    3000 - 6000 Ante 400
    15 minute break
    4000 - 8000 Ante 600
    5000 - 10000 Ante 800
    8000 - 15000 Ante 1000
    15 minute break
    10000 - 20000 Ante 1500
    etc....

    Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Street, Sligo.
The Adelaide is a fantastic new casino, very comfortable atmosphere and a great place for a tournament like this. Hope ya'll can make it if you're in the area.

Tournament Director; Stephen Mc Lean. TDA rules will apply.

stephen@pokerireland.ie if you want to ask any questions..................... Cash registration on the day welcome thank God.

    lol,

    Bit of a typo there......

Will the brother be playing this one?.....I'm hoping we can get a good turnout for this one or the Adelaide might not invite us back, hee hee.

I'l be hoping to last longer than I did last time. Trying to get people to go from Westport is a nightmare though as everyone wants to watch the rugby. I'm sure they'll have it up on the screen - might be worth mentioning.

    Cheers Len,

Thats true, I'll be watching the rugby myself so rest assured it will be aired during the tournament.......I have based the blind structure on 30 or so players so it should be very playable if we get those sort of numbers.

Its so hard to find the right time to put on a tournament with this type of structure as you're almost always going to clash with something when the start time is early afternoon.

    See you Sunday.

Does this casino have a website?
I would like to know the schedule for when I visit home.

I don't think they do. You can contact them on adelaidecasino@eircom.net. They're in a really nice building just opposite Dunnes Stores.

I take it you won't be making it down for this tournament Tar?

    I can't afford a buy-in of 220 until I leave college.
Thanks for the address, I must have a look there. Something interesting to do at home, I never.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I've been getting a really good reaction to this tournament. I'm expecting at least 40 runners but probably close to 50.......Lots of Donegal players are going to make the trip.....

I know that CPT have a tournament this Sunday too so there'll be big competition there, lol.

Laugh all you want but unfortunately the CPT in Claremorris will probabaly attract 150 runners minimum. I know their tournaments are a complete joke but they do heavily advertise their events which to be honest is more than you have done for your event. I havent seen one poster or newspaper ad for your Sligo event whereas the CPT posters are plastered everywhere around Mayo. I tried to get a few lads to go to Sligo but to no avail so its the CPT for me:( I did play the previous Sligo event and would recoommend it to anyone thinking of going. Good luck with it.

How did this go?? Any reports??

    Nothing to report. Disastrous turnout.....
12 players took part. The tournament took over 6 hours to play out so that will tell you how much play there was in it......
Vinny Mc Namee and Patrick Mc Fadden split 1st prize for €1,000 each and Conn Mc Dermott took 3rd.
I have to give a big thanks to the Adelaide again here as they allowed us to offer this tournament to players.....
....Like you say our downfall is that we didn't advertise but just about every single player that told me they were going and were going to bring people didn't.

The good news is that the Adelaide haven't given up on us yet......We're going to guarantee a prize fund at our next event with 100% prize-pool payout and we will be advertising it properly.....

Fair play though, if you want to support a tournament organiser that completely rips off its customers best of luck.....I'll keep putting on real poker tournaments and eventually I hope I will get through to people.

I don't know what the real prize-pool was in the CPT event in Sligo last weekend but I know that they took in over €25,000 plus tournament registration and cash game and side action rake at their last event in Dundalk and along with the fact that they are sponsored by Betfair who would cover all of their costs and then some anyway........ they did pay out a massive €17,000.........I suppose they have to take the cost of highly trained and very experienced dealer's wages into account too but wait no hang on they don't have dealers, except in the cash game which they completely rape.

People are being introduced to the game of poker by this crowd and they don't know any better.......But its because of regular poker players (who should really have the interest of the game as their main priority) supporting these events that they continue to get crowds.

I'm just dying for someone from CPT to come on here and defend themselves......they are probably going to say they are making deductions from prize-pools for their end of year mega farce.

Nicnicnic stay away from this thread, lol.

The unfortunate thing is that Betfair bailed them out big time, chances are theyd be out of business now if betfair hadnt come along.

A lot of talk in the Boyne Valley about the CPT last week, the majority put two and two together and wont be going back.

Stephen you should go for an all out advertising campaign all over the midlands, putting in the biggest writing the GUARANTEED prizepool, and also 100% payout!! also say you you are ENDING THE RIP OFF, its the only way these types of events could kick off for you. from a market point of view i think a rebuy is the way to go though as they seem to love those. every pub, club, chippy and phonebox should have a PokerIreland poster in it up to 2 weeks before the events. its the best form of advertising and the only way youll be that shower... goid luck with it

    Steve,
sorry to hear these events are not supported and other less quality tournys are. If I may be so bold as to make some suggestions. Feel free too yawn..
    1. IMHO you need to offer/advertise side action with any freezeout tournament. Punters need to hear their options when/if knocked out.

    2. Also I think to build up a following you should start with cheaper tournaments, after you get regular happy punters, offer them bigger events. If you look at some of the more attended tournaments around, you'll notice they have smaller events regularly, and thus had a readymade audience to advertise thieir bigger tournaments to. These smaller events also can be satelittes.

Its hard to be a roving tournament organiser outside Dublin unless you revert to the model adopted by the poker cos out there (not talking about the banditos mentioned in your post)

Having said that, if i get the time I will be glad to attend one of your big events. I was raging I wasn't an offical student in January.

    good luck....

PS.. can you do this on yer guitar

I have to say it was deeply disappointing the turn out. I enjoyed myself anyway. One hand turned it around for me. I had a healthy stack until I played 64s from the cutoff. Hit a flop of K64 got them all in against KJ and he hit a J on the river. Teach me to play ****e cards. Though after that all I got was ****e cards and Vinnie wasn’t letting anyone in cheap. It was a good standard of play for a sit n go. [Think I went after 5 hours play including Pizza break] Fair play to Stephen for not giving up. But I have to say if people in Sligo and Mayo want to play real poker… They have to start supporting these events. What galls me is that people do get seduced by CPT events – Claremorris got 149 runners I believe. So a minimum prizepool of 17.5k assuming at least 50% took the rebuy top up. A player I know finished 7th or 8th for 700 and he said he thought the winner got 5K. But the fact is it’s a self deal tournament… and the biggest problem with that is that most players cannot shuffle. It’s a crying shame that this event wasn’t better supported.

Don't worry Len....Lessons have been learned.....We're going to blanket surrounding counties with flyers and maybe even a radio advertisement for our next few tournaments.....I'm happy enough to stick with the €200 buy-in as it means you are spending your time well, imo.....

I'll start a new thread now in a minute but the next two events to take place in the Adelaide Casino are on Friday 9th March and Friday 30th March. Both of these tournaments will be Irish Open satellites, €200 buy-in and one ticket guaranteed though you can expect at least three to be won at each event.....We are seriously going to hound people until they come along and see what a great tournament can be like......

After that we're probably going to run a €10,000 guaranteed cash tournament possibly with a two day structure but sure we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.....I'm going to make it my mission to blow CPT out of the water or force them to run tournaments of a suitable standard with 100% payout.

Thanks again for the support Len.

I most certainly did not want to support the CPT but i was unable to get anyone interested in going to Sligo and as i run pub tourneys in the Claremorris area i decided to go along as most of the players would be fairly regular faces at my tourneys. With the Rugby match on Tv as well it was more of a day out on the lash than anything else. On a few occasions, when the opportunity arose i brought up the whole debate about CPT with a number of players who i would regard as being good, intelligent players but almost to a man they just couldnt see what my problem was. They seemingly didnt see anything wrong with the crazy blind structure, lack of dealers, the payout (which btw they announced as €17.2k from a field of 138 players but they never announced the breakdown etc. apart from stating 5k for first down to 550 for 10th. Unless someone stayed until the end of the Final Table and calculated exactly how much the was actually given out, its very hard to know. I wouldnt believe their figure of 138 players either as after the first few hands i asked the lad that seemed to be the main man how many players started and he started counting tables aloud and mumbled some figure....very professional i thought.)

On the more general point i really do wish you the best of luck in what you are trying to achieve. As i stated in an earlier post i played your first Sligo event and thought it was the best tournament ive experienced (apart from the poor turnout:rolleyes: ) and for your forthcomig tournamenst i certainly will spread the word among my regular players. I will probably run a few small satellites in my area as well, which should generate 8/10 players which would at least ensure that i wouldnt be travelling alone;) Please feel free to forward any posters, flyers etc to me and i wll help get the word out. You can pm me for my address.

    Best of luck.

Cheers Collite.....PM sent.....I know exactly where you are coming from.....With your help and all of the organisers in the general area we'll be able to bring quality poker tournaments to the area......My hope is that once people see the difference CPT will have to clean up their act or get lost of course.
