Canning Duo Opt Out Of Galway Squad

    Galway will commence their National
    Hurling League campaign without the
    services of former All-Star Ollie
Canning and his teenage brother Joe.

The Portumna pair have made themselves
    unavailable to Galway boss Ger
Loughnane and have not been included in
a 35-man squad announced by the
    Tribesmen.

    Loughnane and his selectors Sean
Treacy, Brendan Lynskey and Mike Murray
have introduced a number of players who
have been off the county squad in
    recent years with Rory Gantley,
    Diarmaid Cloonan, Mark Kerins and
    Fergal Moore returning.

They will be a big big loss to galway. What happened to them was disgraceful

Bad news alright but I heard Loughnane hasn't given up on them 100% yet and is still trying to persuade them to come back. Everybodies going on about Joe being a massive loss (and he is) but Ollie is a bigger one, one of the few leaders in Galway hurling at the moment.

IT was disgraceful what happenend to them. Loughnane should try and get the Loughrea lads to apologise to the Cannings to try to get them to bury the hatchet and get Galway fighting everyone else and not themselves.

Yeah he announced his retirement last night, according to the statement it has nothing to do with the county final incidents:rolleyes: . As mentioned previously huge loss. I hope for Galway's (and the Championships) cause that Joe comes back.

Joe's hamstrung at the moment anyhow. Way I heard it the Cannings weren't impressed with Sean Treacy going back with the county set-up when things were still up in the air.
