Good value in gold & electronics, with added advantage that the voltage is the same as in Ireland. Plasmas and home theatre systems much cheaper and can be shipped.

Wine was extortionately expensive but other alcohol was reasonable where available. Just a tip if staying at a beach hotel, there can be noise near the beach due to the amount of construction going on around the marina and also offshore due to the man made islands being formed.

Great destination, guaranteed sun but will be nicer when the construction is completed.

Amazing place. Not 'cheap' but good value cause you get sooo much for your money. Service is incredible, food amazing and reasonable. Taxi's are dirt cheap. Shopping malls are biggest in the world, same prices as here more or less but every shop you've ever been in, under one roof. IF you go down to Karama you can buy any type of clothes for about 10% of the price (fake obviously but excellent quality)

PC's didn't seem cheap to me - I was looking for a laptop for my sister and I didn't see any particularityl great deals. However flat panel tv's are for nothing. €2500 will get you a 60" Sony Bravia...

Electronics cheap but PC stuff expensive. Sunglasses are a little bit cheaper. Luggage is cheap, cigarettes and booze in duty free is for a song. Cosmetics and perfumes no cheaper. I wouldn't bother buying clothes, everything is about two seasons behind.

On the Duty Free matter you can buy duty free inbound at Dubai Airport.
    Handy during Ramadan!

I'm glad i saw this thread as i was just about to start a new one

Anybody got any good recommendations on hotels to stay in Dubai

I'm stopping there for 4 nights at the end of February with 3 of my mates en route to Sydney and we were looking for something as cheap as possible really!! but anything in and around €100 a night would be perfect

if you can even just recommend a good site i might find them that would be great, i have looked at the sticky at the top but all the sites seem to be just finding me 3-400 a night luxury places!

so can anyone give me a good place on a budget??

    cheers

I think if you're going to Dubai, you HAVE to stay at a beach hotel.... !
Why not stay a couple of nights at the Royal Meridian Jumeira, and maybe the last night at the Meridian, that was mentioned above, near the Airport.. !
But then again there's Tons of Beach hotels, mostly 5 star. The Oasis Beach is 4 star, but still great.
