Hi, I'm buying a used car from a private seller. But before I commit into buying the car I wanted to get it checked by a competent mechanic. Can anybody suggest me someone in Athlone? I have tried both carsell.ie and aaireland.ie but they were not able to provide me with any satisfactory solution. Thanking you in advance!!!

I'm buying a used car in Blanchardstown and had similar question last Saturday. I test drove a car but I don't have the expertise to know whether it's been crashed or not.

I found a thread in boards where someone mentioned www.carcheck.ie.

A mechanic from carcheck.ie is going to check out the car for me tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how I get on.

EDIT: They're based in limerick but cover the full country.

Ok, Booked carcheck.i at 7pm last night for Blanchardstown. He arrived on site at 11am today. Spent approx 50 minutes checking car out.

Over the phone he gave me the highlights of the report. Nothing major. Will need timing belt and possibly 2 shocks.

This was followed by a 5 page e-mail report from Bernard Kelly.

Just back and collected the car. Driving well.
