UCD Staff protest at Minister's office

The staff of UCD were down in Dun Laorgire earlier to protest the minister over the failure to implement a 3% pay rise, due under the benchmarking process. The bus left today a 1pm. I have no idea how many staff turned out or if student services were affected in any way.

Whats funny about this though, is that UCD staff are doing a bit of a solo run. Presumably the pay rise is being withheld from all staff across the country, but its just our boys who are out protesting.

A friend in NUI, Galway said he hadn't heard about it until today. It was his understanding that the rise was agreed in December and backdated in the next pay package at the end of the month. A bit inconvenient, but hardly worth protesting over.

Does any have any more information about this? Ireland.com reports it, but basically just copied and pasted SIPTU's press statement. Does this apply to all University staff, academic and non-academic? Why are UCD doing this alone?
