    Hi,
During the recent high winds part of a tree from our neighbours garden fell down. The are 6 fir trees at least 8m in height. My wife and I feel that they now pose a danger to our property and to our children. What should we do next?

You have no legal rights at all if are they completely inside his garden, you may cut overhangs back to the fence but that may make things worse / more unstable so don't do that .

Approach for a chat first and ask them if they noticed the trees were dangerous . If you both agree they are then the best thing to do is ask if you can pay to get a tree surgeon to trim them so they are lower/safer. If you offer to pay as part of the request they may help fund the job themselves especially if they agree it needs to be done .
