What could happen...

A friend of mine had altered his provisional licence to say that he's 18, and was caught by a bouncer when trying to get into a nightclub last night. He is only 2 days off 18 at this stage, but the bouncer took his licence and gave it to the Gardaí (I know, what an ***hole) and they're saying he could get a year's imprisonment for 'tampering with government property'

Obviously this won't happen, but what is the worst case scenario for doing this?

If he is under 18 the worst he will get is a meeting with a juvenile liasion officer with his parents.

I know someone who got slapped with a fine for doing this about 2 years ago, think it was about €4-500 or thereabouts.

Why is the guy an asshole? He would've been letting someone in to the place who was underage, so the way I see it, he was only doing his job.
