Has anyone tried using it? I can't get the damn thing to work for anything :( Although in both cases, I'm not sure if its the controller thats broken, or that I'm just using it wrong..

I've tried it with no luck on a pre-owned copy of super smash bros melee (comes up with an error when you run the disc), and Mario Kart 64 for Virtual Console (which says it supports a GC controller, but just complains that I need a Classic controller when I try to start it). I've tried holding down L and R when starting virtual console, as the wii manual specifies...

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Andrew

That Smash Bros error sounds like a disc error more than anything else (also, make sure the disc is in the right way, i repeat this to myself everytime i put in a disc but i still manage to put games in the wrong way).

I've seen those 'Wii Gamecube' controllers as well, odd how they are the same as the 'Gamecube' controllers they were selling a year ago with a new paint job

If you know someone with a Wii/Gamecube, try the controller over at theirs. Otherwise bring it back and get a replacement or a classic controller.

i bought one thinking i could use it for both VC and GC games it worked fine for GC so i thought i would pick up mario 64 as i never played it sadly it wouldnt work like said above i was asked for classic controller, i got a lend of a friends GC controller and it worked fine so it seems it only works with GC games which should be mentioned on purchase

Gamecube controllers only work on VC games that indicate that they can be played with a Gamecube controller... read the notices before spending your Wii points. Mario 64 work fine with my official Gamecube controllers.

I have one of each controller, an official GC and a Game copy. Only the official one works with Mario Kart on VC although they both work with Gamecube games.

9.99 sterling in Game Newry, so I guess 15 euro in ROI

Ype, I'm having similar trouble. It'll work fine for CG games but wont recognise it for VC. Most annoying as I cant find official pads for sale anywhere...

I bought one yesterday while I was down in Cork looking for a Wii. My GC is f0cked at the moment (When fitting a qoob, don't scrape off the chunky thermal pad), so I haven't had a chance to test it.

Surely if it's GC compatible, it should just work?
Why can't a VC game use a GC controller? Is there a key-mapping issue?

Yea I'm sure you need one to be able to save GC games.

I'm bringing my GAME controller back today - neither Mario Kart64 or Ristar will work with it - I have a 4Gamers GameCube controller which works fine with both of these VC games. I picked up an official controller on Ebay for about €6 more than the GAME one.

does anyone know if you can save gamecube games using a Wii memory card or do you have to have a Gamecube memory card. I'm presuming there is some sort of memory card required for saving games

You need a GC memory card to fit into one of the 2 slots on the Wii - under the smaller hinged door. Tons of them on Ebay.
