So I ordered an amp off thomann, and it doesn't work. Flick on the power switch and nothin happens. I'm pretty sure it's a fault somewhere inside the machine, so I'm gonna contact them and send it back. Does anyone have any experience in replacing stuff with thomann? How long does it usually take? I'll be using DHL if poss.

Id replace the internal fuses to be honest before getting involved with returns, you'll be waiting for months before it's sorted. What amp is it?

If you go fiddling with fuses and stuff would that not make the warranty void though????

No, they're user serviceable parts. You dont have to tell them you changed the fuses anyway if the worst happens and its not the fuses.

Yeah, it could be as simple as a dud or loose mains fuse. I'd replace that first. A packet of glass fuses will cost you less than 5 euros in Maplin. Fuse holder is usually at the back and should unscrew so there's no need to open the unit up or invalidate the warranty.

Take out the mains fuse that's in it anyway and have a look at it to start with.

Yeah, I agree. Thomann ARE obliged to replace it with a working one (and pay shipping costs afaik) but ive read a few threads here about how much hassle it is, i'd defintely have a look and see if its something simple before shipping it back to them.

HOWEVER, i would tell them that its not working straight away. You can still be trying to fix it in the meantime, but i would defintely make sure its on record that youve told them something was wrong straight away.

Tell thomann its not working and try and get them to get dhl to collect it.

Never had to send anything back to thomann myself, did with music store and its an experience i never want to repeat!

The internal fuse is intact, it seems fine. I've already emailed thomann, but they haven't replied yet so I'll try replacing the fuse and seeing if that helps.

Bring the original with you when you go to get the new one and familiarise yourself with it as well. The last thing you want is a wasted trip into Maplin or Peats. :)

Size (32mm or 20mm), composition (ceramic or glass), current rating (usually 2-3 A), and lastly, whether it's time-delayed or quick blow. There's usually a T after the current value on the fuse to indicate time-delayed, which is pretty common for an amp fuse.

Make sure you try a different power cord as well anyway.

Tried a new fuse there, still nothing. Must be just a bollocks'd unit. I emailed thomann yesterday morning and if I've no response by tues I'll ring em.
