I am planning to use Nessus (installed on Desktop) at work (production devices)

1- Is there any difference between Nusse Linux platform and Windows Platform ?
2- Is it a good idea to use more than one monitoring tools on different PCs, like Nusses on one PC and SolarWinds on other PC or ?
3- Does using Nusses (Linux or windows) affect any network devices (Cisco devices, hp servers, etc )
4- Is it necessary the PC which has got Nessus installed on it, to join AD domain ?

    Linux is recommended.

    Dont see why not

Its been known to knock stuff over and it killed an old cisco router that needed an upgrade. Plus theres all the DOS/Dangerous plugins.
But thats kinda what its supposed to do.

    No

What about if we tick " Safe Check " box for Nessus ? Will it be run without affecting other devices ?

In that case Nessus will not perform any checks that might cause loss of service to a host or network.
If this is the case that : if we tick the " safe check " option, we are not going to perform a proper check, and if you chose a custom check, we are going to affect networks devices ,,,,what will be the proper way to use Nessus ?

Im with Bedlam on this one.

    The basics:

Experiment on a test system and test target for a while.

Just take things slowly and don't run a full scan with all plugins across your Domain straight off the bat or you "may" have an extra busy day.

Ubuntu makes for an easy install. (SEE: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy)
