Posting this on behalf of a friend. He downloaded a couple of games there last night for the virtual console (Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter 2). The two of us were delightwd and could't wait to give them ago. So loaded them up but unfortunately whenever you move or there is any animation of movement the bits that are moving go black. It renders it completely unplayabe.
He has a HD-TV and has the component cable and all that too. When you go into the operations guide the picture there is perfect so is it the component cable thats the problem the tv or does anyone know. And better yet, any solution?

Its a serious problem that effects a lot of the PAL VC games when using component. Sonic etc suffers simliar problems.

They need to update the Wii to sort this problem out because otherwise its a load of bullocks.

Charging 8 yo-yo's for a game you cant play.

Yep, the games should work fine on SCART... i've got Street Fighter II as well and SCART plays it fine.

I've SF2 too on a HD-TV with component cables as well but never even heard of this problem. Maybe the download was corrupted somewhat - you could always got to "My downloaded games" in the shop and download it again - maybe that'd sort it out.

Its nothing to do with corrupt download - a lot of HDTVs just don't take a 240/50p signal through component.

I was hoping this wouldn't affect me, but I grabbed some VC games yesterday and I'm getting "No Signal Received" on my TV when I run them. Pain in the hole to have to switch cables to play VC games........

Any updates on a possible fix from Ninty?

None - just do your best to highlight the issue.

I've sent a few email to the european customer support address - to no reply.

I've posted a few times on eurogamer, i've sent an email to gamesTM.

If the demand for a fix is loud enough, eventually they will fix it.

Out of curiosity - what make/model is your tv?

Its the Hyundai Q321 from the Xtravision offer last year.

I bought SMB Nes + DKC (snes) + Bonks Adventure on VC and ive no issues whatsoever on my HDTV (Samsung R7), have it going through that 360/Wii switch cable from Play Asia...

    In fairness I didnt d.l SF2 as I have it on 360.....

Whats the point in paying for a HDTV if you have to switch back to scart for it to work???

Hope a fix sorts u guys out soon....

Just got this email from Nintendo Europe Customer Support.
Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

The problem is that some TV's, obviously yours is one of these, will not accept the signal from the Wii. The issue is being tested by the technical people in Nintendo and when they have resolved it we can help. Until then I would suggest you use the composite cable.

    Kind regards,

    Your Nintendo Team

Hey Reactor, what e-mail address did you use? I've been mailing Nintendo support for weeks about getting replacement straps, and still haven't had a response..

    Mine works fine.
What component cable do you have?
I have the 8 Euro one from Play-Asia.com

it's nothing to do with the component brand, its to do with incompatability with a 'lot' of pal HDTV's.

I have 3 LCD HDTVS. 2 have the issue, one doesnt.

Nintendo need to get this sorted NOW. It's bad enough they give us the **** pal versions of games as it is, without adding insult to injury.

Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

Here is the official statement covering the virtual console and component cable.

"In the past, games were released featuring different resolutions and signal types, namely 'interlaced' and 'non-interlaced' signals. As such, Virtual Console game signals are broadcast in these 'interlaced' and 'non-interlaced' modes. This is because Nintendo has always maintained that Virtual Console titles are an exact representation of how these titles originally appeared. Some component cables do not support 'non-interlaced' video signals - therefore to fully enjoy all Virtual Console games without this problem potentially occurring you will need to play them with a normal AV cable (supplied with the Wii) or an RGB Scart Cable (available separately). This is not a fault with the Virtual Console service as using the correct lead will ensure you are able to play any title from the Virtual Console library. The Virtual Console does not support 480p resolution or above so there is no benefit of playing these titles with a component cable. "

    Kind regards,

    Your Nintendo Team
