After wresting with a UK-sourced Netgear TA612V for weeks, I've decided to bin it and go for a clean all on one router box.

Can anyone recommend something that will do all the following:

    - ADSL Modem
    - 100baseT (all least 4 ports)
    - Wireless

    ...and the cruncher...

    - built-in SIP/VOIP support not locked into one particular VOIP vendor.

I know Draytec have a box that will do all the above, but I'm looking for personal recomendations.

    Thanks.

Looks good, although I've never heard of that company.

I'll shortlist it with the Draytek Vigor 2800VG.

http://www.marxcomputers.ie/ do FRITZ!Box and I know they had a special a few weeks ago, might be worth comparing prices if you go that route.

But if you've struggled with one for a couple of weeks, u may just want to get one from Blueface.
They will configure for you and I'm pretty sure they are unlocked. They used to be anyway and they are straight so will tell you if you ask.

    Hi,

I have been doing a bit of research, and the Fritzbox which is sold in Germany is designed for ADSL over ISDN, as most lines in Germany are ISDN lines.

The ones made for the Irish / UK market are made for ADSL over POTS.

Marx-computers pricing is as good as I can find, between Ireland and the UK.

Fritzbox fon wlan 7050 has received very good reviews in the UK PC mags, and I plan on getting one in the near future, however I'm interested in hearing from someone who has used one.

The 7140 has a USB Socket which will allow you to connect a USB Printer or Storage Device (External USB Hard drive) aswell.

    Here's a review:

I recommend the Dreytecs. Very feature full, especially if you also need a vpn forwork.

I have the zoom X5V from digidave.ie and use with freespeech I think it's a nice neat box. It's v. easy to configure. QoS works well. Just press # to switch to VOIP from PSTN. A single input for ADSL which works for phone line aswell.

These are the downsides - I would look out for this on any box you get

    1 - only 1 voip account supported.
2 - theres no flashing light to say your offline.

that being said I don't know what other routers support for the same price.

Netgear, zyXel, Fritx, Dlink all make combo DSL modem/ dual port SIP/ Wifi / NAT etc.

Indeed you want SIP on outside of firewall. But none of these are easy to source via normal suppliers.

QOS only affects your own traffic unless you have LLU and using your ISP for VOIP, otherwise any QOS has very limited effect (almost none unless you downloading video or running torrents). G.729 is less than 11kbps.
