    Hi,
I was just wondering if any HDMI cable will work with the PS3 and not just the official Sony one? it will be for a European model PS3.

i.e. is a HDMI cable just that a HDMI cable or is there specific region ones?

Also the same question for the PS3 controller.

    Tks.

I have heard a few people on here saying they have a Japanese PS3 pad working on their US PS3 so I don't think that's a problem.
I would think it's the same with the cables, although I am not sure so maybe someone else can answer that.

    you're right..
a HDMI cable is a HDMI cable......don't get sucked into buying a Sony PS3 branded one if its any more expensive than a no-brand one.
In 99% of cases, a bog-standard one will be ok........its only in rare cases where extreme length with no signal degradation is needed that a top-grade cable is required..

any HDMI cable should work, same for the controllers. i don't think the bluetooth frequency is any different anywhere else in the world... it's a pity you can't buy bog standard cheapo VGA cables for the 360 :)

i'll never go online to buy a cable. if i want a cable it's usually something i want ASAP... and something i'm not willing to risk coming broke 2 weeks after i ordered (bad experience with eBay).

Thanks for the responses, so it would be fair to say that if I bought a sixaxis controller for the ps3 from the US it should work fine with European model?

    tks, again!

in fairness the same risk is there with nearly all on line shopping not just ebay.

yes bluetooth is an industry standard so the only thing that Sony might have done is put a smal bit of memory on the controller with region specific codes so when the controller communicates with the console they don't match, but they likelyhood of that is probably nil and reports have shown them to work.

Its a safe bet that it'd work

ive posted this before,, but ill do it again :)
theres no region locking on controllers, i have a US ps3 with japanese controllers, absolutly no issue.

With the cable, just be aware that if something goes wrong with your PS3, some people have had Sony refuse to fix it because they didn't use "certified Sony products". So if something does go wrong, just say that you have sony cables!

    Fabtastic! reasonable prices..

I've ordered some DVD's from the USA before and the courier wanted cash for Customs before handing over the DVD's ... Is this the same with all items from the US, in particular I was thinking of cancelling my prebooking for ps3 in Ireland and just buying it from VideoGamesPlus..toghether with games/controller etc..?

    Cheers

not had any issues with videogamesplus deliveries (well, not any *negative* ones :)). They used ordinary post for the one game i ordered (~5 day delivery), and used DHL for the larger package (~3 days).

Bear in mind that an R1 PS3 can't play your R2 DVDs or PS1 / PS2 games, and it's not like you can just drop it into Game if it goes titsup on you. You pays your money, you takes your chance.

You should just wait it out until march, you will be glad you did.
Pete's second paragraph says it all.

Yeah probably best I guess especially from a support point of view.

I've ordered a controller and a game and we'll see how we get on.

    Tks, for advice!

If you hadn't already ordered it my advice to you would have been don't buy any games or extra controllers just yet.As you don't know whether or not you're going to be forced some sort of bundle, and if you are it wouldn't be too much bother as a game or two and an extra controller is what most people have in mind anyway. But if you order now you have already spent money on them and may be forced to do so again come March.
