I assuming you are talking about the IR transmitter (sensor bar) the IR receiver is in the wiimote.

    here's one

Does the remote not transmit the signal?! And the sensor bar recieve it?! Ah I dunno, doesn't matter, that one looks good, cheers!

You would think that, but actually no it doesn't. As can be demonstrated by people using candles instead of sensor bars. (fire emits IR radiation).

The sensor bar is actually just two little IR lights on either end of the bar. If you go into the Wii options, you can go into the sensor options, and you can basically see what your remote "sees" through its sensor.

And as Re*ac*tor said, anything that emits IR light will do, such as candles or IR LEDs, which is essentially what those "wireless sensor bars" are, battery powered IR LEDs.

i think the sensor bar has 6 leds.

It actually only has two as far as I can tell, unless it's two clusters of 3, because there's only lights at either end of the sensor, as you can tell by examining it, or if it's been on for a while, you can feel the heat at either end and see where the leds are. Plus when you look at what the remote 'sees' it appears to be two leds.

I stand corrected... it's TEN leds!!!

i reckon i will get one of them soon. Logitech or one of those people will make one soon surely. The wii one does have a **** range on it.

so if i ranged up 11 leds, it would work better in theroey than the wii offical thing?

You can use camera phone and check the amount of LEDs in it

Yep, any camera will show the light emitted by any infra red device. Camcorder, digital camera, camera phone etc.
Could be a useful way of checking if a TV remote is working!!

mine wiimote can work by pointing at the light in the centre of the room.........why does the ir reciever need to be pluged into the wii?

If you can get it to work by pointing it at the light then you don't need the sensor bar (although I think it needs two light sources so can't imagine a single light working too well). Sensor bar just gets power from the Wii.
