While traffic is high in this forum just want to let everyone know that there is an American Football league in Ireland!

The sticky containing league info is here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=220134

There are 9 teams in the league this year and they are in the following locations:

    Cork
    Limerick
    Lucan (Dublin Dragons)
    Booterstown (Dublin Rebels)
    DCU (DCU saints)
    Tallaght (Tallaght Outlaws)
    Belfast -Bulls
    Belfast -Trojans
    Carrickfergus

If you are interested in playing football or joining any of those teams you can find contact details on www.iafl.info.

If you are interesting in the officiating side of the game, the league is always in the need of more referee's! Please see www.iafoa.org for more information there.

Just because the season is coming to an end over in the states, it doesnt mean the end of the football year just yet. The IAFLs 2007 season is about to get under way and all teams will be looking for new players so give it a shot, I guarantee you wont be disappointed.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Just to jump on your thread.

There is also a developing Flag Football Association which plays NFL 5v5 rules.

This sport is an important first step for learning the stratagies and tactics of American Football.

It can be very difficult to establish an American Football team from scratch,so flag is a comparitivly easy start.

The Superbowl Saturday tournament in Dublin will have quite a number of new teams who are not connected to an existing American Football team.

Don't forget the number of developing American Football teams in Craigavon,Waterford/Dungarvan and Galway.

The Admirals that I've met are all good guys. Good team in the making there too, their linemen are huge.

Just to add that you don't have to be a student in either UL or DCU to play for them.

This season is set up to be the best ever in the IAFL, if you've any interest come to a training session and see how it goes. It's great fun and all teams will make you feel welcome

I mean Rebel isn't exactly a traditional Dublin nickname

I'm much too young to remember, but I'm told there was some kind of rebellion in 1916. The people who partook in it may or may not have been rebels. :p

Why is the officiating site so out of date....? I wouldn't mind doing that since I cant play since the knees gave up and went south...

Yeah the Ref's site is always out of date! What you could do Archytas is go to www.iafs.co.uk and PM 'The Ref That's left' he may be able to help you out.

You can contact the league through here: http://www.irish-american-football.org/contact.htm

There is usually a 2 day class room training session for anybody who would like to become an official around this time of year, I believe its coming up soon. I will try find out and post it here.

I think that the Officials Clinic is on the 24/25th of this month.

The QUIET REF on the iafs forum could help you.
