Hi, and thanks in advance for any input/advice you may have.

I changed my LNB from a single that sky provided when they installed my dish, to a quad. I added a second digibox with a UK digibox/card so I could get ch5 (mainly for the football!), and bbc3 and bbc4 on my planner. This second box works perfectly, in all weathers.

My problem is with the sky installed first box, in poor weather, the signal drops out badly. I initially assumed it was the LNB, but changed the cables around on that with no difference.

When Sky installed, they cabled into an existing TV wall socket, is this where the problem stems from, or do I have a more sinister problem?

If I need to recable the first box does it matter what cable I use, and where could I get it?

One final question to highlight my whole ignorance on the subject, if I want to get a Sky + box, will I need to have 2 seperate cables running from the LNB to the box, or is there such a thing as splitter. I know that sky + takes 2 of the LNB outputs.

    Thanks again for any advice

did you try swapping the boxes around too? there are a few possibilities for your problem.
You have ruled out the LNB so far....

1 swap the digiboxes around and see if you have the same dropouts on the other box. If you do, the digibox is not the problem. If not then you have a dodgy digibox.

2 You may need to adjust your dish slightly to compensate for the extra weight of the quad LNB. That solved the exact same problem for me after getting a quad LNB a few years ago.

3 Ideally you should always use a continuous unbroken cable from the LNB to the digibox, you say it is routed through a tv point in the house, so the cable is probably going from the LNB to your attic, (1 join to your internal cabling) from there to the tv point and from the tv point to digibox which makes 3 seperate cables joined together which could be the source of your problem. One of my cables is routed the same way without any problems but the signal strength and quality are lower then the rest of the direct run cables.

Oneof the above should be the answer to your problem, and in answer to your second question, yes you need 2 seperate cables to get full functionality from sky+ although it can work with only 1 input.

Hope this helps, and welcome to boards:D

Hi, thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Hopefully I wont have to get back on the roof too many more times!! I might wait out and get a Sky + box, the TV point will become redundant with that.
Thanks again for the advice, and also the welcome:cool:
