Leopardstown on Sunday

I'm thinking of heading to Leopardstown this Sunday, mainly for the AIB Champion Hurdle but it will be for the days racing. Is anyone else going? I'm going from Shannon (so think Limerick), what would be the best way for me to get there? I've had a look on the site for directions, and all these road names me feck all to me. Should I just get the train to Dublin and would there be buses going from Dublin to the race course?

Ah, nevermind me! A bus service operates from Busaras to the racecourse on racedays returning after racing for departure times contact Leopardstown on 01 2890500 or Dublin Bus 7034404.

Just in case you decide to drive. Come up the main road (N7) as far as the Red Cow Roundabout. Take the third exit (M50 Southbound) and stay on it until Exit 15. Thats the back route into Leopardstown with plenty of parking.

I'd certainly try to drive or talk somebody into driving, it'll probably cut a good hour off your journey each way.

Aye I'm thinking that. My mate might drive up, think I'll use AA route planner to plan the route.

It's as easy a place you can find, once you get onto the M50 it's a straight drive, the junction to turnoff at is well signposted.

I'll most likely go too. The card's online now, should be a good day's racing.

Rather than taking the Busaras bus (€13 return or something similar for a 5 mile journey!) the best way to get there is to take the Luas from Stephens Green which leaves you a ten minute walk from the course.

Then youve the hassle of getting from Heuston to the green. Train, Luas to Busaras and Bus to course is handiest.

Sure money is no object for the shrewdies in this forum anyway ;)

Yeah my mate won't be driving now, he's on the beer on Saturday and doesn't wanna lose his license early Sunday morning! Must rethink how I'm going to go about this now.

I went down to this - a great days racing and the Irish Champion was worth the entry fee alone.

Betting didn't go too well however

Main bet of the day was Aitmatov in the 2m4 hurdle - after seeing it i feel he was probably the best horse in it. Hit difficulty trying to getting a run, and interference on the run-in, although I doubt this cost him the race. I'm wondering would he have won with Carberry on board?

I also was gonig to back Carrigeen Kalmia but decided not to over a lack of confidence in her jockey. I learnt my lesson after seeing her driven back up just before the line to beat In The High Grass, the horse I decided to back in the end.

Icklingham looked one to watch from the opener. Also Hairy Molly over further. Schindlers Hunt didn't impress too much, and I don't think he beat much.

Ah well ,I'll try to make it back Hennessy day!

Aitmatov got a very bad run in this - I'd keep my eye on him and hopefully he'll be better priced in his next for not coming first today
