I am wondering whether anyone may be able to tell me why this is.... I have 512 MB of Ram installed in my computer....however the system details are only showing 480 MB of RAM.....why would this be?

It could be because you have a shared graphics card

IE: the laptop in my sig has 256mb of RAM but I only have 192mb that the system accesses - the other 64 are used by the graphics card (shared graphics card)

I didn't know this when I bought it all that while ago and Im getting annoyed with it so I'm buying more RAM to compensate

Right click on a blank part of your desktop and click 'Properties' go to settings and you'll be able to get the name of your graphics card here (to google and find out if it's an onboard shared graphics card)
