    attention grabbing title aside.

First post in a while, mainly due to finally getting wireless in the apartment.

Problem is, I am now unable to connect to the apple website. Or indeed get my overdue software update.

I presume this is some kind of permissions issue with my wireless modem/connection. I recall in college I had been unable to connect to MSN and such like on wireless. Not a problem when the wired option was available - which is no longer the case.

So what am I doing wrong? This is an issue for me not least cos I don't seem to be able to get Firefox to work properly either.

If this is only happening with some websites then it sounds like eircoms DNS servers are acting up. Try OpenDNS and see if that helps.

    well I tried that.

Whilst it seems an interesting idea, and I'll keep those settings going for the time being, it hasn't helped.

When I click on the apple in the top left, and select software update it has a go at it, and then tells me it cann't connect to the update servers, and to ensure I can connect to the web.

Similarly, opening www.apple.com tells me it cann't connect to the server.

This post may be used as confirmation that my web connection has functionality of some sorts.

If it's of any curiousity I'm on magnet, but I'm confident that's not anything to do with it. Not least cos the PC in the household is taunting me by opening the apple site

you don't have peerguardian running at all do you? as the mac version of that really f*cked up my access to tonnes of sites incl apple.com and strangely enough penny arcade.

this sounds like the stupid mac is restricting acces to types of sites then

my solution would be to dump the mac int he bin and buy a pc:D

Of course I realise you are joking but I recently got banned from Laptops for less.

OP: What happens if you type in the IP address of apple.com ? In case you don't have it, it's: 17.254.3.183. See if that works.

sorry, I hadn't seen your responses until now.

I do have peervanguard on board, although I don't think it is activated. It's not entirely clear how I'd go about uninstalling to rule it out though.

Tapping in the IP address produces the same result.

BTW I can't access istore through itunes or get my software updates either.
